Gamefly is Awesome

I just started a gamefly subscription with my roommate. For those of you unfamiliar with the service, you pay a monthly subscription to rent games from gamefly via mail. You can keep them as long as you want, and when you return the game you get the next one on your list. The pricing is based on whether you want to have 1 game out at a time or 2. If you live with another video game person then I recommend the 2 game one and you split it. It'll cost each of you 11 a month as opposed to the 12.95 a month for a single person renting 1 game. By keeping a close eye on your rental list when you return a game, you can always each have one game out.

Why did I switch to gamefly? I'm getting tired of dropping 50 bucks on a new game, beating it in two weeks, and then shelfing it for all of eternity. To top it off there's about 12 games I really wanted to play right now. My rental list has about 30 on it, but the bottom is stuff that I kinda want to play but only would if nothing else was really out. Plus you don't suffer like when you normally rent a game. If you go to blockbuster (why god are you going to blockbuster) chances are the game you want isn't in. If it is, you're gonna drop 6 bucks to play it for 4.5 days. If it's late you're gonna drop 12 bucks to play it for 4.6+ days. When it's all over, if you really liked the game, you're screwed. Gotta shell out the 50 bucks to buy it new. With gamefly you can click the keep it button (which becomes available after a game has been around for a few weeks) and they'll charge your credit card and ship you the instruction book and manual. Since they don't ship these when you rent, they're in mint condition.

To put things into perspective I just rented baten kaitos for the gamecube. Right now I can click the keep it button and grab it for 37.99. My gamestop has a used copy for 44.99. And who knows what the previous owner did with it? Maybe he was reading the instruction manual while on the can!

They have a 2 week free trial, so try it out. I really think it's the best way to play and buy games.

Disclaimer: I'm not a gamefly shill, if I were I would have linked you all to gamefly with a referrer link that would net me gift codes for money off my monthly fee or keep it purchases. I didn't even give you a link. Not like it's hard to figure out what the url's gonna be, but it's the thought that counts.

Redstone is on a distinguished road

I just rent from Hollywood or Blockbuster. How long does it take to get through the mail after you order?

Usually 2-3 days. If you guys are prevailantly a gamecube user then you'd understand why I can't go to standard rental places. They have maybe one shelf dedicated to gc while ps2 and xbox have a couple rows each. Plus there's been a couple times where blockbuster told me the wrong day it was due, or didn't check their inbox on time and charged me late fees. I've even been accused of stealing a game (and paid the fee that followed).

I'm done with being tricked out of my money. If I rent a game from gamefly I can have it as long as I want, I just can't rent more until I give it back. It only takes two blockbuster rentals to equal the monthly renting power of gamefly; even then the blockbuster rentals have a time frame of 10 days on them whereas I have 30 days on the same dime with gamefly.

Blockbuster recently started the monthly fee gamepass thing to compete with gamefly and netflix (movie rental equivalent). I can pay 20 bucks a month to blockbuster and still walk in and be disappointed by the lack of gamecube games. At gamefly all systems are created equal.

I've bought roughly thirteen gamecube games a year since it came out. At an average price of 40 bucks (and that's being generous) I spend 520 dollars a year on games. In comparison my gamefly account is 121 dollars a year. Let's say I play three games over the course of the year that I deem worthy enough to own, due to multiplayer. That's another 120. I'm at 241 dollars and saving a little more than that each year.

It all depends on your gaming habits. I'm not saying gamefly is for everyone, but it's there and it could work for you economically.
