Did everyone know no MP in HL2 when u bought?

I'm just wondering if I was the only one in left field that didn't know that there was ZERO Mp other than CS offered in HL2. I knew TeamFortress wasn't coming, I knew CS was but I didn't realize that Valve scrapped even DM and TDM and CTF etc. Man for a company so apparently in touch with what the community lost, to me this is just embarassing that they didn't include it. I tried those community made DM mods but they all suck and are so bad that it's virtually unplayable. I have heard there is a rumor going around Valve will include DM in one of their upcomming patches in December. Can anyone confirm. It's nuts, I finished the game twice now and I just leave it there!?! No interest to go a third time on this game. CS is fun, but so many irritating people out there just ruin it. Team stacking, talking and blabbing and fighting etc just ruin the game online. Nothing changes in the CS world, immaturity is at the same levels as before. CS itself gets boring too especially with the elite scoping camper. Man I hope they put out a DM, I like mindless killing etc..Pretty sad that nearly 24 hours after the release of HL2 that the community was already feverishly working on basic DM mod..

I knew before I bought it and considered it the SP experience and that CS:Source was for MP purposes only

Half Life 2 is one of the greatest software-driven schemes to ever exist.

Multiplayer in the original HL was quite fun for pure deathmatch. I remember especially one map with a nuclear bunker where one could push a button once in a while and then everyone had to fight for access to that bunker to stay alive when the nuke went off. The alarm sound for when that happened is one of the base alarm sounds in HL2.

hahahahah ya DM was fun in HL1 and th map you speak of. I agree with the rest of the comments(funny as you read them one after another). Well I knew CS was coming for HL2 I was a tester, but, I figured they'd include at least DM for the thousands of people who hate CS. They will now, I bet because people are already making their own.

From what I"ve heard the "surprise" is new player models for CS:S. I could be wrong though.

I knew CS:S was the MP for HL2 as they said it numerous times in numerous interviews and previews.

despite knowing CS: S was the only mp, I still thought they would release a DM extension for the thousands of others who don't like CS, to me that's a cop out and stereotyping people. A new model from CS is not what I was hoping for.. if that's the news, it's not big news to me. Adding Deathmatch is big news to me...

HL2 is great value

What people have to remember is that Half-Life 1 was a stand alone game initially... what led to its increasing popularity was the permissive position Valve took on allowing Modding. HL is the game and the engine, mods are free (or nominal cost) that play ontop.

The fact that I got Day of Defeat as a free game, 4 years ~after~ I bought the original Half Life, astounds me. By far your best $ value for gaming.

I'd argue the same for Half Life 2, especially if you bought the "Silver" package over Steam. 100% of Valve's back catalog, plus HL2, PLUS CS Source, PLUS Day-of-Defeat Source when its released, PLUS additional freebies as they come available.

oh look, I just got Death Match for free.

With Doom3, I get...duct tape mod? Oh wait, that's to compensate for a really dumb game design decision...
