Ending in Half Life 2

Hey, for all of you who have beat the game. You all know about how much the damn ending leaves you hanging (and that whoever made it was on LSD)

Any of you know if they plan an expansion pack to further/complete the story?

The ending doth suck.

Maybe they'll make an alternate ending where the G-Man gets shot

HAHA.

Hey, for anyone who has seen Equilibrium, the last part of the game reminds me of the ending to that movie...when you take that long elevator thing up.

apparently they want to make games where you play as alyx and barney before doing HL3. would be nice to get the full story of wht they were up to before HL3

That would be a logical move. I can see why they want to milk as much as possible from the the current rendition of the Source Engine and then make HL3 with a even better engine.

I hope they finish the story though. Because seriously, when I saw G-MAN I was thinking, cool a change of environment. Then the credits go and think "what the hell".

I mean it seriously is one of those ...to be continued endings. Hate those!

I just beat the game myself. I can't believe it ended like that! I've been playing this thing for about 30 min to an hr. a day since it came out (I work long shifts). Anywho, time to look for mod's and multiplayer type stuff to keep the feel of HL2 going. I really enjoyed the game though, and it's one that I'll probably waste playing through again on the hardest setting.

Playing it through on Hard now, the ending sucked, but the expansions should answer some questions and we know they are working on HL3 as well so I guess we just have to be patient..... which I suck at....

I hate that terminology: "Answer the questions"

Part of a writers job is to add intrigue and mystery and not explain it. This causes the player to guess at them him/herself. Which draws the player in. The unknown is generally interesting, and too often used in sci-fi/horror genre.

In reality. The ending was bad because of the episodic style and it was... in general anticlimactic. The good doctor was not a good nemesis. When it was mentioned that he needed a "special host body" or some such I was expecting for another chapter into the xan dimension. As in you failing to take down the generator and being transported there. This, did not happen.

Whereas HL 1 nearing the end had epic battle after epic battle I never knew when it was actually going to end. It was a much better structure to be exciting at the climax of the story.

I also thought the ending was the pits! I couldn't believe it ended like this.

However, the trip there was excellent. So much so, that I've started it again to see what I may have missed along the way the first time. I've already discovered new areas that I bypassed in my rush through.

And, I hate STEAM even more than the ending of the game!

That is what Valve wanted to do so everyone could buy the next copy of Half-life and they could make more money.

sounds kind of like a business strategy. Fuckin Valve and their plan for longevity! lol

I don't know what the big deal is, movies end like that and people praise them for their cliff hanger ending (ie. Lond of the Rings), but a game does it and the ending sucks. Believe me, I would have liked a bit more bang for the ending, but I would not say I was surprised.

Bungie did the same thing with Halo 2. You play through a very short Single-Player Campaign(compared to the first game) to get a goddamn "cliff-hanger" ending! Halo 2 was supposed to be the "end-all of console FPS" and Half Life 2 is supposedly the "end-all of PC FPS" and yet they both have the misfortune of a "no explaination why we just went through all of that" finale.

Video games are starting to become like Hollywood movies more and more every year...soon we'll have even more generic FPS with sh!tty endings.

i still need to play HL1. The copy i have is really lame. I can't play it cuz of steam (i forgot my old steam account password so i had to make a new one), and i can't use my legit CD key to use on my present account of steam for HL1. Think i might have to buy another copy of HL1 to play it .
