I'm talking about Heavy Metal F.AK.K. 2............. I can't play it!!!!!!!! I've got it for one or two years and I've only played twice on it (with a marvellous PII300 & a nVidia Riva 128
)... on my parents computer ![]() But now, we've got all Windows XP and even if I can install the game (which isn't easy to achieve ) .............. I can't run it.... Windows deactivates the game at the launch of it, because it is responsible for some "errors"...... ![]() Can anybody tell me, seriously, how to get this game up and running??

well I think ive a copy of this laying in the attic, ill give it a shot in a day or two, my only recommendation to you at this early stage is to scout around forums and the companies website for any patches updates etc...... chances are though it might not work anymore.
you could also try running the game in compatibility mode (an often forgotten little trick -- although sometimes it doesnt work either!), worked for me a while ago with Swiv 3D. Right click the exe, properties, compatibility, then pick another os (or even force 640x480). |

Can you play Quake 3 or Jedi Knight Outcast?
If not, don't even bother. It's the same engine, you are probably running out of ram or something. Your machine is at the REALLY low end...I doubt it even meets the min. requirements of the game itself. Sorry bud. |

I have Jedi Outcast and played it till the end with NO problem (none....)!!!!
I also have Star Trek Elite Force, which also uses the Q3 engine..... I've 512 Mo of RAM........ and an overclocked Athlon XP 1700+ ...... and a 64Mo GeForce 3 Ti 200 (overclocked) So I'm far from the PII300, 64 Mo RAM and 8 Mo OpenGL compatible GPU from the minimum requirements...... And, reno, if you have to say something stupid, please not in my thread.... If you were smart you would have looked to some of my posts, were you could have seen what I use..... Really, I find you pathetic, talking about something while knowing nothing.......... |

well I couldnt find my copy, sorry for taking so long to reply, but from what ive heard the game wont work on the new OS, its nothing to do with your system.
so unless you want to reformat and set up a dual boot system.......

Sorry, you ass. I thought you were talking about your POS 300mhz rig. Next time specify. You say "we all have XP," well...I thought you were playing on your crappy system, and really don't care to sift through the thousands of posts here to find out the capabilities of the rig you may elude to in your statement.
If you've got something to say, say it clearly, and cut down on the crappy grammar. |

I just dug up Heavy Metal FAKK 2 and installed it (just watched Heavy Metal 2000 and that inspired me, then I remembered reading this post a while ago). I'm using XP Home and it installed/patched/NoCD'd just fine. There was an update quite a while back at Windows Update that added compatibility for alot of games, do you have that installed? I don't remember exactly which games it was supposed to make work, but I know it fixed alot more games than it said it did.
It actually installed easier and runs better and smoother than it did when I was running Win98se (whaddya know about that). I have 2 CD drives in my system, a Plextor CDRW and a Toshiba DVD, I used the DVD drive to install it. I do remember the game being very flaky with some CD drives. I didn't have to use any compatibility modes or anything. I couldn't say why you are having so much problems installing it, I'm somewhat new to XP, but I thought I'd post my results...... I have beaten this game while I was running 98se, it's a pretty FUN game, but the ending sucked eggs. It was left wide open for a sequel that we will likely never see. My favorite line in HM 2000 "How do you lose a 6 foot bitch and a talking rock?"

Could you tell me more about the patch and noCD, cos everytime I tried to patch I got an error.......
It's maybe because of the fact I can't patch that I even can't play. |

It's the 1.02 patch, don't remember where I got it(I'll search for a link and post it here). The NoCD patch came from the old standby's: GameCopyWorld and/or possibly Megagames. (www, the site name.com)
Heavy Metal FAKK2-1.02 Patch EDIT: the link won't take you directly to the patch, you'll have to select "windows" on the left sidebar and then the "H" directory to get to it. I verified that the patch IS there. Yes, I believe the game absolutely REQUIRED the patch just to run. Hope that helps ya! |

Wait a second...
...you have XP and your openGL doesn't work? What driver version is video card? The original drivers that came with XP didn't support openGL...

I use 40.41 drivers on my 3D Prophet 3 Ti 200...........
But Iheard some rumours about HM using Quake III engine with some special code not available under XP, this is why the game has so much problems and bugs.......... |
