Yes, male and violence... Well about the violence, it depends on the gamer. If you are easily influenced by virtual violence, then it's bad but I think in general, it's not bad.

Yes, male, you see much worse things watching the news, but wait what do you see on the news? People using video games as their excuse for murdering 40 guys.

3. If you're so weak-minded that you've resorted to committing acts of violence because you play DOOM3 too much, you're obviously not acting that way because of the game...you were just an IDIOT in the first place. Blaming violence on "video games in general" is quite the ridiculous assumption - and it's usually made by individuals WHO DON'T PLAY VIDEO GAMES(i.e. Joseph Liberman, Tipper Gore). This scenario is a very common scapegoat used to keep the blame from being placed solely on the person who committed said violent crime, which is absurd. They tried to blame both music AND video games for the Columbine killings, as well as labeling the entire "Goth" community in America as a "stereotypically violent breed of people". How can you make such deliberations if a test base has never been gathered to determine such a conclusion?

NOT A SINGLE CASE THAT HAS BEEN LABELED AS A "MEDIA-RELATED ACT OF VIOLENCE" HAVE HAD THE ACCUSED ADMIT THAT THE REASONING BEHIND THEIR ACTIONS WERE BECAUSE THEY PLAYED VIDEO GAMES, WATCHED T.V., MOVIES, MUSIC, ETC.

It's usually because someone's given them a reason. I know exactly how some of those people feel. I wanted to make those @$$holes pay for picking on me in Junior High, but I didn't get the inspiration for revenge from playing Sonic the Hedgehog...and I sure as hell wouldn't have killed them either. I just boinked their girlfriends instead!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been folllowing this thread with interest since my first post and I think I'll follow up with some after thoughts. Anything that is unknown and strikes fear (imaginary or not) into peoples hearts is going to be blamed for whatever ails society at the time. I can list several that in 40 years have had their hey days of blame, Elvis Prestley, The Beatles, hippies, weed, rated r movies, soft/hard porn, alternate religions from whatever is considered standard, Dungeons and Dragons, Mtv, Michael Jackson, Ozzy, Trent Razor, Manson, and up today with Everquest, GTA, and Doom/1st person shooters. When you look back though, it seems ridiculous that Elvis or the Beatles were ever threats, or even some of the others for that matter but the news at the time considered them moral degenerates destined to destroy the minds of teenagers and young persons everywhere. Why, listen to Ozzy and you might kill yourself or someone else, at the least you were going to bite heads off of birds and bats. I guess what I'm trying to say is that just like all of the rest in time people will realize that violence in video games is no more responsible for people killing one another then the violence in movies are. Or is bad for you as any of the other things I mentioned above. It just makes good news when a shrink interviews a kid who just shot 20 of his schoolmates and he says I play GTA every day. But how many other normal individuals play GTA everyday without capping the first person that comes along?

1) Yes
2) FEMALE 28 (Am I the only girl that posts here? WOW!)
3) I have no problem with violence in videogames. I'm an adult though and some really small kids shouldn't be playing games for adults.

There are ratings on the games that I think should be taking seriously by parents. After someone leaves home it doesn't matter because they are adults then. But the ratings are for the parents. And they need to pay attention to them.

But as far as putting less violence in games because kids are playing the ones they aren't supposed to, I think that's crap. I shouldn't be punished and have to play unexiting games because some mother somewhere bought her 10 year old GTA Vice City San Andreas, and the kid got bad ideas from it. That said I think 15-16 is old enough for Mature ratings and also it depends on the kid.

Some kids are just fine with that stuff and don't go out an try to do what they seen in a game or on TV, and some adults do. So it's hard to define the rules. But If you're playing a first person shooter game, it's kind of required to have violence.

I dig it. Hopefully it will stay the way it is.

I agree, most of the people that talk about it, have never played them. They are the ones that are afraid of everything and never have a realistic view of what's realy going on in the world. Goody Goodys
