KOTOR2 Crash to Desktop@1280x1024

I just picked up KOTORII installed it, getting ready to play it, and I set it up at 1024x768. Everything loaded up fine, I configure all my buttons and alll, and I decided to change to 1280x1024. Everything seemed fine, but I forgot I wanted to set up an ati tray tool profile so I exited and when I went to restart, everything acted like it was going to load, then I just got thrown back to desktop. AT first I thought maybe it had to do w/ my OC or ATI tray tools, but as soon as i set it back down to 1024x768, it loaded up fine. Another problem is when I exited out back to desktop my gama/brightness is messed up. It has my desktop brightness the same as the ingame setting. I am using the unians based on the 5.1's., but Dling the 5.2 right now. Im going to try to launch at 1024x768 then change it ingame to 1280. Hopfully all goes well. I was really looking foward to this game, not off to a good start so far.

Edit: weee just set up my character, went to play and back to desktop I go....This time my gama/briightness is ok, but I have no taskbar. Anyone else having any probs at 1280x1024?

i run the game fine @ 1280X1024... but i have the same problem with my gamma, after i quit the game it was bright as hell.

hope it works out for you.....the game is great so far.... story seems decent as hell.

well i got it to work now @1280x1024 i went back to the cat 4.12's and that worked. Now i am using the cat 5.2's w/ ati tray tools and it seems fine.

The Game has bugs that cause exit to Desktop
I am not sure if that because of the ATI driver

Try to reduce your OC or play the game at the default values

I do not use game profiles with my Ati tray tool
I just generaly OC it to but i have not notice any trouble

Works fine here, CAT 5.2, 1280x1024 as well. Have not crashed a single time except when ALT+TAB'ed once (which is expected)

Mine was working great till earlier. I went to board the ebon hawk, and I could hear music and stuff playing, but just had a black screen that never went away. I hit cntrl-alt-del and shut it down, but when i got back to the desktop I was in 640x480 resolution w/ no taskbar.

I run it @1280x1024 and have not crashed once. Only problem so far is that it start in windows rather than full screen but that is easily fixed. I'm using Cat 5.2 though.

yes ive seen this issue myself, normally altering the resolution then back fixes it, you cant always hit the maximise button.

this game hates ATI cards. There are tons of people on the KOTOR2 forums that are having problems. This game needs a patch badly. Quite often i loose entire conversations. and Swoop Racing, if i win, i dont get money

I was looking around the LA and OE forums, and alot seem to have the windowed problem. Luckily this is one bug i missed. If you Edit your KOTOR ini file under graphics options, you will see a full screen setting, set that to 1. Just remember to change the one under [Graphic options], NOT [Display Options]. I am just going to wait for a patch, I can not do the one swoop race w/o crashing to desktop, and it would be nice for the frame buffer effects to work w/o using the 4.2 or 4.11 or whatever driver it is.

heh, i always alt+f4 and reopen to fix it, didnt try your solution thou

Yup thats what I have been doing every single time I open the game. Going to try editing the .ini file as Jitter suggested.

I was having constant lockups and crashes at first too. What I found that fixed it for me was to unplug any USB devices I had plugged in (still have my hub plugged in though). Hasn't crashed or locked up since.

For the stutter issue on Dantooine, I put the "Disable Vertex Buffer Effects=1" in the swkotor2.ini under the "Graphics Options" heading. Just like we had to do in KOTOR1.

I've been playing without a hitch, hiccup or stutter ever since.

I haven't tried it, but maybe disabling Catalyst AI might make the bloom effects return? Of course, Disabling the vertex buffer effects probably kills that effect anyway.

The lack of bloom effects and such doesn't bother me much though. As long as I can play the game without crashing, I'm good....I just like the play mechanics.

no north america patch. this patch is only for textures i believe. fixes no actual bugs.
