Far Cry question

Okay I just installed Far Cry cause my friend said it was an awsome game....anyway when it finished installing this option screen showed up and asked me for what detail I wanted it at.......i hit auto detect and it went to medium detail.......i playd the game and it ran fine.....then I had the urge to try it on the highest detail level at 1280x1024 with ultra high water and well it runs the same,,,,,no slowdowns or anything.....

why did the auto detect tell me to have it on medium detail?

just ignore it if it runs fine

Later in the game (Night missions) it gets a little more demanding and that setting was based on the game as a whole I think. The first few levels aren't quite as demanding as the end. You'll end up having to lower a lot of settings for the last level for example.

Night vision can put a big hit on fps depending on what video card you have.

Yup, that's what happened with me and I have the same vid card. Come the Carrier level I had to drop the eye candy settings down (and drop the res to 800x600) after I set the eye candy stuff up above the initial recommendations, which were set to medium as you mentioned JoeNukem61201.

Wow.. I would highly recommend you revisit this game when you get your next 'super rig'/Upgrade, it's a hella alot more impressive when you play it with Very High across the board at 50-60fps. It'll be a whole differnent experience.

The lastest patch with Omega's brings a lot to the table in regards to increased framerate.

I've actually been meaning to reinstall this game since I upgraded to my new Mobo and upped my RAM.

However, I played the game through last spring with the same vidcard I now have. The only place I really ran into some heavy lag was in the Volcano level. If you DO start experiencing anything like this, let me give you this suggestion before you resort to lowering the features:

Try to hang back in the level and take out as many opponents as you can before getting right into the middle of it all. One way would be to use the sniper rifle -- if you have one -- or rockets from an armored jeep or such like vehicle. Once I eliminated about 8 - 10 of those opponents in that Volcano level from near the damaged bridge, the rest of the level was just fine.

There are several of us...me included...who voted this game GOTY over Half Life 2. I still think it deserves it.

and just checked today at an online retailer that also has a store here in town (gamestop - software etc) and the game now sells for just $20.00! That's a "Serious" deal...

depends on your card, if you have a newer card, you get some new stuff, if your card is nvidia, you get different shader support i think. Read the read-me text at the website for a full explaination.

thanks 4 the quick reply, i have a 6800gt 256mb .do i have to download all the others patchs b4 the version1.3 or can i go straight for that one.

Just the 1.3 patch. And yes.. you'll find a difference with this patch.
