Well, it means that they've used a trick like apache mod_rewrite to stop people putting that picture in other pages. If you try to view that picture from a page that doesn't belong to 3drealms, it shows you another one so that you go and visit their site. This reduces bandwidth theft somewhat...

Sorry, no, don't even remember the name of it now, was it just called "ski"?

Actually used to have an ancient demo cd with it on (as a full game bonus), but it got trashed a long time ago (it had Fury 3 on it too :P)...

Will see what I can do with google, maybe we can find it there, it should be free online by now if you ask me

Hey, I did a search, and on the first link I clicked, I think I found it!!!!

Quote:

ski — an unusual skiing simulation game
Synopsis

ski

DESCRIPTION

Imagine you are skiing down an infinite slope, facing such hazards as trees, ice, bare ground, and the Yeti, — a horrible monster! Each turn moves you one screen row downhill. Unfortunately, you have to put your jet-powered skis on backwards, so you can't see ahead where you are going; only behind where you have been.

However, you can turn to either side, jump or hop through the air, teleport through hyperspace, launch nuclear ICBMs, and cast spells to call the Fire Demon. And since the hazards occur in patches, you can skillfully out-maneuver them.

You ski until something bad happens to you. Your final score is based on how far you have skiied, how many jumps you made, how many Yetis have melted during your run, and how healthy you are when are finished.

These characters represent the things that you see on the slope behind you:

I This is where you are.

. This is normal snow — always completely safe to ski on.

Y These are trees. If you try to ski through trees, you might hit one and get hurt!

' ' A space represents bare ground with no snow on it. If you try to ski on dirt, you could fall down....

# This is ice. When you are on ice, you can't turn, and you might slip and fall down.

A This is the Yeti! As soon as he crawls out of a Snobank, he will lumber directly towards you at one space per turn, and if he gets within one space of you, he will grab you and beat you up! However, he has trouble moving through trees. Steer clear from the Yeti, and he will melt after a while, since it is a sunny day. If you jump over him, your jet-powered skis will help melt him. You can also melt him with nuclear ICBMs, or call the Fire Demon who will cook him, but once a Yeti melts, another one always shows up after a while. The Yeti doesn't understand about the edges of the slope either, so you can just cross them to get away from him! And since he is slower than you, you can try to ski right past him before he can grab you!

* This represents a nuclear ICBM that you launched. You launch them from your backpack, and they zoom right at the Yeti.

D This is the Fire Demon, who is always your friend unless you call him a bad name and he gets mad at you.

These are your commands. You can type any one of these letters when you have the "?" prompt on the end of the slope line, or just hit a return to do nothing this turn. Preceding any command with a number does that command repeatedly; thus, for example, “4l” is “turn left 4 times”.

r Turn to the right. If you were going straight down, this will make you go one space to the right every turn. If you type "R" again, then you will go two spaces to the right every turn. If you type "L" the next turn, you will again be going one space to the right every turn. Remember that you can't turn when you are on ice, and if you go off the edge of the slope you come back into the other edge. You travel farther while you are going sideways, so you get a better score if you slalom to the side a lot, but you can never go sideways more than five spaces per turn.

l Turn left. Exactly the same as turning right, but totally opposite.

j Jump. When jumping, you don't have the "?" on the right for each line you jump over, so you can't enter a command for it. You can't fall, hit trees, or get grabbed by the Yeti while jumping, but you might land badly and get hurt. Since the Yeti moves one space toward you each turn, you have to be going at least two spaces per turn sideways to jump over him without getting grabbed when you land, but your jet-powered skis may melt the Yeti while you're jumping over him.

h Hop. A hop is half a jump.

t Teleport through hyperspace. This transports you to somewhere else on the slope, but you might materialize way up in the air and fall down.

i Launch ICBM with nuclear warhead. If your backpack is working well, an ICBM will be launched from it towards the Yeti, travelling at three spaces per turn. Launching ICBMs is dangerous, but once one is going, it can't hurt you. If it is launched and loses its negative-infrared lock on the Yeti, it self-destructs.

d Cast spell to summon the Fire Demon to this material plane. If the alternate universes are in a synchronous phase, the Fire Demon will appear somewhere on the slope, and move to attack the Yeti at one space per turn, but if something goes wrong while casting this spell, the Fire Demon might get mad and decide to go for you instead of the Yeti! If there is no Yeti around, the Fire Demon will soon get bored and go home. If you don't like where the Fire Demon showed up, you can try to recast this spell, so that he will appear somewhere else.

! Spawn an invisible monster called a UNIX shell. You may type to the shell; it will do strange things with your input, opening a space warp in the middle of the ski-slope to display them at you. The shell monster is polite; when it is done, you will be deposited back on your slope exactly where you were before.

? Display command help.

Good luck, and happy skiing!

Can someone pliz maybe download the file and make it available for the rest of us with plain old windows??? That'd be cool.

I'm not at home right now, am on campus and the pc's here don't have cygwin installed on them, so there's nothing much I can do till I get back home to my rig from here for now lol...

NQR 4v4 leugue @ www.nqr.nu
1v1 leugues @ http://duelmania.quakeworld.nu/

NQR is startting it new season sunday and every year more and more people come back to play quake1 caus all new games get bored. so probaply 100+ clans every year in NQR.
Id say, its a better community than quake3
But it's hard getting into quake1 now, if ur not a experianced Quake player. most quake1 players play over 6 years. all Division 1 are players who play for 10 years already.
6 Divisions this year

4v4 is very nice, It's the best teamplay game ive ever played, and even people who don't play quakeworld just come and spec official matches caus they are just AMAZING. like u are watching pre programmed actions. it's crazy. It's more of a sport these days

Just look @ http://www.challenge-tv.com/
QW is Number 1 of posted demos and favourite game to watch mad skillz

Intrested getting into QuakeWorld? just contact me @ IRC Quakenet
my nickname is "Juggernaut"

If wana see some nice movies go here:
http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/roely.star/movie.html (137mb)
made movie.html so IE people can do Save As.

IF u liked that make sure getting this 1:
http://gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk/bl...world/dde2.zip (348mb)
Dag and Def Extreme its called. It's the best qw movie so far from the 100s that are made, DDE3 will be coming soon, they been working on that for "3" years!

Another 1: http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/roely.star/movie2.html (338mb)
This is the first map of Division1 FINAL (CMF VS SR) from last season NQR,
It's Real speed + COMMENTARY, Full 20 min match. This movie will give you a heartattack FOR SURE! a MUST SEE

*Old-School UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
With the recent "resurrection" of Old-School games to the Game Boy Advance such as Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Ice Climber, and several others, demand for the original copies of the game has gone up tenfold. A local Classic Video Gaming store, Fun Unlimited, sold all 32 of their copies of Super Mario Bros. in the one cartridge format in fifteen minutes yesterday. They expect a mixed new/used SMB shipment in on Monday, which will contain over fifty copies of that game alone. They expect it to sell faster than the last shipment. They have a copy of Super Metroid going for $50!!!!! That's a little too rich for my blood(good thing I already own it! ) They also have an EXTREMELY RARE copy of Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis, as well as it's sequel...WHICH WASN'T RELEASED IN THE U.S.!!!!!!!! Good luck finding a working Mega Drive in PAL format, though...

Just to let you kids know!!!!!!!!!!!

The Seņor

Awesome classics to remember included the Mechwarrior 2 series (31st Century, GBL and Mercs). Mercs was the first game I played online with. LOVED IT.

I also recall a classic simulation/strategy game called Outpost from Sierra on my Uncle's PC. Another game I played on his PC which nobody mentioned was Wing Commander: Armada. I loved the split screen action.

I'm still playing the Street Fighters and KOFs (98 and onwards, only.)~

I love all of SEGA'S "tracked" shooters...especially Virtua Cop. It just had this charm about it.

Yeah...but the game was in PAL Cartridge format. You'd have to upload the entire cart's worth of data and encode it for compatability with an Emulator. That's a REAL PAIN THE @$$.

Who said you have to do it yourself????

But then again, that would take some of the fun out of it.....

Ubergrendle is on a distinguished road

Wing Commander Privateer (open source)

100% free, open source port of Wing Commander Privateer. Linux, Mac, and Windows NT+...no more DOS dependency. Updated graphics...its no Doom3/HL2, but a much better space sim experience.

I discovered this courtesy a Slashdot article the other day.

Like, old Rockstar games dude!

For all you Rockstar games and GTA fans, you can download the original GTA, Wild Metal and GTA II from Rockstar now since they're kinda old and considered abandonware in a way, at this here URL, I'm going to start playin GTA II tonight, a few friends of mine were crazy about it when it first came out, and one of em who never played it like me is crazy about it right now, so I'm hopefully going to get crazy about it tonight!!!

A few more great games of yesteryear that you should get your hands on - if you haven't played these, then you should get on top of it!!!!

Descent

Descent: FreeSpace

Two revolutionary Space/Fighter sims. I enjoyed these more than X-Wing/Tie-Fighter back in the day.

This week's "Classic Gaming Indulgence", or the games I'm currently playing.

CastleVania for NES

Blaster Master for NES

Shining Force II for Sega Genesis

CHAKAN: The Forever Man for Sega Genesis

I think I have too much time on my hands...

Well, in a bit of a hurry though, so I can't exactly get the pics for all the oldies I'm playing,(out of all of them Fatal Fury 2, Eternal Champions, Bart Simpson and the alien invasion - I think, and last but not least Alladin, which I'm sure you all remember, I'm playing it again!!! )
Will hopefully post them next time I'm here.
