EA PSP "Pocket Trax" bonuses

I remember reading THIS article on PSP.IGN back in February, and I thought I'd post about it. Anyone that has an EA PSP game might notice a section in some games called "EA Pocket Trax". This option allows you to listen to the game tracks (trax), and pick and choose which ones you want playing during the game. In this article they mentioned that with the upcoming PSP Fifa that EA has also included music videos for some selected tracks, as well as some other features. Give it a good read as there is more in there than what I just mentioned.

If anyone can confirm this please post here. I already know that this is not the case with NFL Street Unleashed (only music trax, no videos), yet I don't have NFS Underground Rivals or Tiger Woods to see if this is the case with those games. With NBA Street Showdown, Fifa, and MVP Baseball coming this month it'll be interesting to see what EA has in store.

- Tip

Edit: Apr.09.05 - Just thought I'd update this with a confirmation that NFSU Rivals has videos along with the trax. Nice stuff too.

Chat it up on the PSP!

If you've been able to follow through with getting web browsing to work by fooling with Wipeout Pure (check out the link for that HERE as this tip will require that 'hack'), then you'll love this too: IRC on the PSP! It does work, btw, and when Logic3s PSP QWERTY keyboard comes out (Check that out HERE , and a full sized pic HERE ) it'll actually be USEFULL. For now, it's just a gimmick, but non-the-less a look at what's in store for use PSP owners.

Edit: you can bet your a$$ SMS is next!

Wipeout Pure Download Details

While not a tip I just thought I'd post this news here instead. GamesRadar has word on Wipeout Pure, and the intended downloadable content that will be available around the time of the European release of the PSP (which is June btw.. and, imho, bull***t!! I want it now, damnit!!)

Sorry bout that.

Anyways, in the new content will be 12 new tracks, 2 new vehicles, and front-end skins. Over time they will add music tracks, and a load of other stuff. You can read up on it more from HERE . Definatly give a read as there is way more in there than what I've posted.

I can't wait for this. So sweet.

-Tip

Edit: Apr.09.05 - For those that own the Japanese version of Wipeout Pure should check the 'Downloads' section of the game. Here's the update: "The WipEout Pure team announced yesterday (the 7th) that there is some new content to download. Keep in mind, this is for the Japanese version only. It includes a new track (Statun?), a new craft (Tigron), and new menu graphics." Lucky sobs. We should see some stuff for the NorthAm version within a couple weeks.

Xbox gets in on Sonys PSP action!

Now, this isn't new to anyone that does any kind of altering/modding, or any other 'cool stuff' to their Xbox (such as running linux off of it, or painting it bright pink), and at first I didn't think to try this with the PSP until I found a post about it, so here it goes:

If you have the USB keyboard adapter for the Xbox (at one time you could get a free one from MS for use with PSO) you can use it for another purpose, and that is to get the Xbox to view any removable flash drive (pen drive, or what not) as an Xbox memory cart. Now, the PSP, since it's a 'removable' storage device when used in 'USB Connect' mode, can be used with the Xbox as a 'removable memory stick' as well!. Check out the article HERE .

Of note though: as the article suggests you will lose all data on the memory stick if you do this as the Xbox will format it for it's use, so backup that stick first! And don't worry: it's reversable. Just reformat the stick using the PSP, and your ready to go again.

It's cool that someone posted that because I did that same thing with that game! It does work but it only works on games where it does not need to load pasted the loading screen. It does not work with NFL Street because you only can start the game with both loading at the same time .

Mount that PSP! (that's not what I mean you pervs! LOL)

Not a hint, not a tip (no pun), but just a cool, and very simple mod (of sorts). I was scoping out PSP411, and one of their users posted this little mod he made. This guy mounted his PSP onto his car dashboard using the Intec desktop stand, and velcro. You can check out what he did HERE, plus how it worked out. Not too bad really. It's giving me all sorts of ideas for mods...

Cheap gig of PSP memory!

Not sure if this fits the thread 100%, but this is a great deal that is still available: 1gb mem stick (for students and teachers only)

As long as you send them some sort of proof you are a current student/teacher, you can get a 1gb memory stick for your PSP for $114.95 shipped! I spoke to them on the phone and was told that they will be shipping them out on the last week of April, so if you can wait, you'll get an awesome price...

Edit: not sure if they ship anywhere but the U.S., you may want to call and ask before ordering!

Thanks for posting that Neo.

Of note, the date that sellers are posting are the same essentially across the board. You should be able to get 512mb Sandisk 'Portable compatible' colored sticks right now (limited stock), but the 1GB sticks will be at the end of April - mid May. Why? Sandisk main manufacturing plant it in Indonesia... soo.. the only ones out there are those made before the Tsunami, or at one of the other plants.

Right now you can get the 1GB Sony sticks as their plants are in Japan (or Korea.. can't remember), but they do cost more.

Thanks again for that Neo.

PBP Unpacker

With Sony releasing the PSP firmware updates in a file format there were bound to be people out there itching to hack it. It was just a matter of time before someone was able to read them, and sure enough, PBP Unpacker has been created from those efforts. This program allows you to unpack and create PBP firmware files that can be read by the PSP.

At the moment there is no 'real' benifit to the average person, but since the PSP executes PBP files (even if it is for firmware updates) you can bet that this will help in the development of homebrew hacks, and an inevitable emulator for playing 'other' games pr programs on the PSP (please.. I really want to play FFVI on this thing!!!).

At any rate, it's kinda cool to try out as you can rip open the Japanese 1.50 firmware file, and the eventual 1.60 firmware to be released this month when the Korean PSP is launched.

Viagra for those PSP WiFi nights

I caught THIS little article on informit.com.

Note: This is not for the faint of heart cuz it WILL void your warranty.

The article describes the process of attaching an external antenna to the PSP in order to increase it's range (ie. signal strength and... stamina). The fact that he did this isn't the most interesting aspect of the article, but rather something he found out while testing it:

"Of note, look closely at the original PSP graph. For some reason the signal value continues to degrade the longer the device is operating. In addition, the spikes in the chart are a bit disturbing because they represent a complete loss of signal. Interestingly, there is nothing wrong with the upgraded model (once I properly seated the U.FL connector)."

Not to shabby (the mod, not the 'disturbing' part). If I ever get the need to seriously mod this unit you can bet I'll try this one out.

One idea I had was to use the Logitech PlayGear Pocket PSP hardshell for this mod. That way I can coil the antenna wire within the casing to hide it.. but.. it has my brain tumbling some ideas.. we'll see..

Hey guys, I'm wondering if any of you know how to put a picture as a wallpaper on your PSP. I already know how to change the save files icon, but I really wanna change the background of the PSP. (As if I was scrolling left and right, and even if I select a different option the picture won't disappear.) If any of you know, please.. let the world know, you'll make it better, I swear. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, delin!

Nope.. sorry. No chance of doing that just yet. For now though, if you change the system date to a different month it will change automatically for you. That's the only option at the moment. Break down goes like this:

January = Grey
February = Dull-Yellow
March = Lime-Green
April = Pink
May = Dark-Green
June = Light-Purple
July = Tealish-Blue
August = Blue
September = Purple
October = Gold
November = Brown
December = Red

The new firmware will be out in a month or so (v.1.60.. around the time of the Korean release), but there is no word on what WILL be in it. Rumors are the 'official' internet browser, and other stuff, but I hope they put a custom wallpaper option in, or at least I would like them to seperate what they have from the months.. let us pic which color.

Thanks A lot man. I'll stick here for a while seeing as the computers at school can
actually get into the site! Anyway as for the Background, Thanks! I read the "month
colors" change in the PSP manual so I already knew that, but thanks anyway. Yeah I also
was reading a couple magazines and Rumors are spreading out that Sony will actually release
an official Browser, which will pretty much really Revolutionize this Sexy Machine. I can't wait,
if not then I'll stick to the creative people out there that mod their stuff left and right. Again, Thanks For the Welcoming!

Safety 'Tips' for when near, or playing with Mercury

Tips and precautions when handling Archer Maclean's - Mercury:

 • Use Mercury in uncarpeted and well ventilated areas. Reserve a room for Mercury use only. (carpeted areas only cushion items being dropped/thrown onto it.. which defeats the purpose of trying to 'smash something to pieces'. Ventilation is required since the more you curse the more oxygen you use. You don't want to pass out from lack of it. Having a seperate room just means you can do whatever you want to the Mercury UMD without people seeing you.. like jumping up and down like a mainiac on it, or from them noticing you destroy something you could have returned.. but.. then again, where would the fun in that be?)
 • Prohibit smoking and eating in or near Mercury exposed areas. (when the PSP gets all messy it makes it harder to handle, and inturn will effect your ablility to play properly.. adding to your fustration. Plus, if you are a smoker you might drop your cigarette on your PSP when you start cursing, or do that 'GASP' thing with your mouth.. I condone the destruction of the Mercury UMD.. NOT the PSP.. you've been warned)
 • Train employees to understand the dangers and precautions with handling Mercury. Also train employees on the properties and hazards of Mercury. (check your blood pressure regularly, take short breaks, and for Gods sake breath in and out slowly when handling it! Be calm... it's just a game.. at least tell yourself that until AFTER your remove it from the PSP)
 • Ask your safety supply vendor for a Mercury emergency containment and clean up kit (See first tip.. this is in regards to 'evidence removal kit' for destroyed UMD. Note: This might require 'hush' money.. keep a spare $20 handy.)
 • Be sure to keep Mercury away from biological waste or anything else that will be incinerated since incineration puts mercury vapor into the air (stay at least 15 feet away from your Mercury UMD before burning it.. not too far though or you won't enjoy seeing it go up in flames. Remember: Use a flammable liquid, NOT a combustible one. Lighter fluid is just fine. Oh, and keep one of THESE handy if the fire spreads too far.. you don't want your home going up in flames.. or yourself for that matter).
 • Lastly, avoid having chemicals such as chlorine dioxide, nitric acid, nitrates, ethylene oxide, chlorine and methylazide in the same area as mercury since they will react violently with mercury. (Then again, SO DO HUMANS WHO PLAY THIS @%@$! GAME!!!)
If you follow those simple 'tips' you should enjoy this game.. if you don't.. THIS (watch your fingers.. hands.. arms.. head) or THIS or THIS will help to relieve some stress. For the last 2, just make sure to point the ends with the hole TOWARDS the UMD, and you'll be fine.

Subnote: While the effects that Archer Maclean's: Mercury has on the human body is unclear at this time, if you do want to see what inorganic Mercury can do to the human body, then take a look at THIS. *Warning: this may be 'distrubing' to some.. but I don't give two @$#!. *

-Tip

Edit: Someone made a comment on tip #4 about the hush money. While I agree you can save money by 'taking care of' a blackmailer, disposing of the body can require a larger amount of money (lawyers if caught, plus you might have another person to worry about.. the witness). The idea is you don't want to keep spending money on this thing. You can get around this by being patient. Blackmailers will get cocky, and will mess up sooner or later. If you bide your time you can arrange an 'accident' to happen, and then let the local law agencies deal with the costs of body disposal, as well as getting off free and clear.

PSP MooPS?

For those going nuts with the PSP Wipeout hack, that allows you to browse the net, I've got a little something for you... it's called MooPS. I noticed this article on PSP411 about a little program called MooPS, which is a mini Web/DNS server that you can run on your machine. You can check out the article on PSP411s website HERE, and get the software from HERE.

Not too bad. Although, as the release date for the Korean PSP launch nears, if the rumors are true, this will become irrelevant if Sony activates the browser support in the 1.60 firmware. Until then, serv away.

Java this up your Tic-Tac-Toe & Tetris u PSP!

OK, so that was a lame heading, but I'm tired.. so.. so what?

Anyways, I got this off of PSPVault:

"Continuing in the long line of applications of the web browser hack, Cristian Gadea has made a JavaScript version of everyone's favourite puzzle game, Tetris, on his website. He also has like versions of Tic-Tac-Toe and a calculator. You can browse to them from your PSP by going to http://webtopsp.com. At the very least this is a nice demonstration of the extent of the PSP's JavaScript capabilities."

Too sweet.

MS gets in on the PSP action.. AGAIN!

Yeah, another MS friendly use for the PSP.

If you all (that just sounded so.. hickish) remember the 'tip' I posted about using the PSP to chat it up on IRC (check this HERE you lazy people), then you'll love this. This is another article I found on PSP Vault:

"If you thought that surfing the net with the PSP was better than sliced bread, prepare to be blown away!

Point your Wipeout browser to http://mob.e-messenger.net/mobile/ and input your MSN screename and password.

Thanks to Hack a Day for the info."

You just know AIM, Yahoo, and ICQ are next.

Someone, please, please get streaming media to work. I really want to listen to shoutcast or XM Radio on my PSP.. Yo, now there is an idea.. a PSP XM Satellite Radio USB Adapter.

Free Manga For Your Psp!!!

Now, if you are one of those lazy people that can't take the time to properly format your jpegd manga collection for the PSP.. well.. gomanga.com is here to help you out. I noticed this article on PSPVault, but I'll post the story directly from gomanga.com:

"The entire first chapters of the four flagship Seven Seas titles -- Amazing Agent Luna, Blade for Barter, Last Hope and No Man's Land -- have been made available on Gomanga.com for manga fans to download and read via the Sony PSP's built-in photo viewer. Each special preview consists of thirty to forty pages of story and gives readers on-the-go the perfect opportunity to sample the Seven Seas titles."

You can read the entire article HERE.

Can't really complain about free stuff, now can you? Especially not when it's free manga, right?

BTW: If you download these lemme know which one/s you like.

Not too bad. Although, as the release date for the Korean PSP launch nears, if the rumors are true, this will become irrelevant if Sony activates the browser support in the 1.60 firmware. Until then, serv away.

Tipstaff can you please tell me how to get this program working on the PSP side? From reading I don't know if you need wipeout or not. I hope not because I don't have it... and I got the PC side working.

You need Wipeout Pure.. sorry. There is one other game that can do this too: Derby Time, a Japanese horse racing game. One thing to note: from what I can tell the browser functions in Derby are different than that of Wipeouts.

Mags on the go.. PSP style

Found this little site while leech.. uh.. visting a Japanese site, and thought I'd post the link for you guys. The site is called PSP Magazines, and the site hosts articles from various magazines that are formated for the PSP. The various posts are not the full magazines, but rather different articles from each. Mags include FHM, Maxim, Sports Illustrated, Road & Track, Wired, and a few others. To get the full list of magazines be sure to click on the 'Magazines' listing on the top menu.

Enjoy.

Mad Catz has a nice extended battery

Gonna get one as soon as I can find it, pretty cheap too, just a bit bulky. Battery life is my only complaint so far aside from it not liking my WEP key for my WLAN

ASPCA warning: Gorillaz on the loose

I noticed this little piece on PSP Vault. In less than a month the new Gorillaz CD entitled "Demon Days" will be coming out, and their first single is called "Feel Good Inc.". If you check out their site they have the song in streaming format, as well as the video too, but as a bonus they have the video for download onto the PSP. You can read more about it off of PSP Vault HERE, and get the video from the Gorillaz site HERE.

As PSP Vault says, "It's well worth it".

Enjoy.

PSP gets FF (just not Final Fantasy.. I'll keep dreaming though)

As you can tell PSP Vault is where I get most of PSP related stuff from... and here's another.

"On the English US website for the Fantastic Four movie, you are able to access a special movie trailer, and photo album of the movie that is designed just for the PSP.

By going HERE and pressing F4 after the site is FULLY loaded you will be taken to a hidden site with movie trailer and photo album that are formated and designed for the PSP. There also appears to be future content planed as "access" is denied for some of the links."

Check out the original posting HERE.

Enjoy!

Trailers? I don't need no stinking trailers. What? They're anime trialers? OK then..

Thanks to Central Park Media we now have Anime trailers for our PSPs. Most are about 1 min to 2 mins long. Short.. I know.. but kinda cool none the less.. and free... so who can complain really?. There is about 12 clips/trailers on the site, and you can grab those from HERE.

Lates.

Free comics! Free Comics! (I had you sold when you saw the word 'free', didn't I?)

Yep, even more free PSP optimized comics for you guys (and gals).

First up is Variance Press who have put up 3 comics from their lineup. From what I remember these were part of a large 'collection' of short stories. Not too bad.You can grab them from HERE.

Best for last. PSPcmx.com have put up 3 books as well, but unlike the ones I've linked to already.. these are full color. Very nice (Lions, Tigers, and Bears, as well as Legacy are simply beautifully done). You can grab those from HERE. One thing that PSPcmx requires is that you register with them in order to download them.

Enjoy.

First to Tipstaff. Whoever you are, Sony America, INC. needs to hire you asap!. I was kinda, sorta thinking about getting a psp, but because of your obvious enthusiam, it's all I can do from bustin' our here at work & running to BB right now! .

Ok, it is now middle May. is the 1.60 firmware out yet? Is there an official browser? Does the built in wireless support DHCP only? My home network is controlled by my FC3 box & turtlefirewall. I have it set up as a static & two seperate LAN segments. No DHCP for me! Also is there a regualar wall brick that one can buy; car cigarettle lighter adapter; Output to reguler TV? That offroad game (I saw this on Tv a few nights ago) looks aweseome, but what about GT4?
