World of Warcraft help - who shall i be??

Well,

WoW is my first foray into the world off MMORPG (well when it is re-released in the UK on the 15th of April). I have been reading online looking at the guides and have come to a bit of a conundrum. I have been looking at the different player classes and was thinking of being a Human Priest – specialising in Holy Magic. From my reading I understand that this is a class that is quite hard to play. I like to play in a group and don’t particularly like soloing so I thought this class would be a good opportunity to be easily accepted in teams as a healer is always in demand. However, I was also looking at the other magical classes (mage etc.)

What I am really looking for is some advice from those already playing WoW – what classes are you? Can you relate your general experiences of different player classes? What is your playing style and can you recommend any other classes I should look at more closely?

Thanks in advance

nana

Priests are a great class to be, they're always wanted in groups for healing and ressurecting people as well as causing some damage.

My character (Well one of) is a lvl 33 Night Elf Druid (On the Shadow Moon PvP realm). Druids are a cool magical class as they are a bit of every class in one. They can heal, fight melee and cause some damage with spells, But thats not all they can do. They can learn to morph into animals and mimic other classes abilities. (Bear = Warrior, Cat = Rogue)
I also have a human warrior and an undead mage. I find the warrior to be boring as they only use melee and don't have any spells as such. Mages are a great class to be as they deal alot of damage and can conjure water and food for the other party members to use, But i suppose what class you choose is down to personal taste.

Hope you enjoy WoW when you get it and i love your new sig.

Thanks for the help fireball. Especially as my game shipped today!!

MY main concern about being a priest is that I am going to find it hard to ever be on my own when completeing quests etc. and will always have to be in a group. From your experiences are Priests still pretty solid on the odd soloing mission?

I am certainly tempted by being a druid as they seem a good all rounder, but my worry with them is that they are jack of all trades and master of none

so many choices and i havent even got the game yet

lol

Most classes are fine at soloing, hunters and warlocks are the best at soloing as they have combat pets who can help them but they're a weak group choice.

By the way, what realm are you going to play on? or have you already chosen one?

Hunters a great in group actually for pulling post 30 with Feign death.

Shamys are another class to consider. Very powerful in group and can do some sweet damage while wearing nice higher Armor. They also get totems that increase stats to the group such as additional attacks and increase in str.

These i know from personal experience. Also if you want a healer/tank go for a palidan as they can both wear good armor and heal them selves. They are great in group or solo... though the do less damage then other classes.

i have a lvl 45 NE Shadow(spec) preist on Bloodhoof, and i will tell you right now priest can beat the crap outta just about every single class in one on one PvP if you are good at playing a priest. preists are NOT the prime choice for soloing but even if you group with one other person you can reck havoc on everything, especially if its a damage dealer. priest can get a little boring at times, because when your in a group you do nothing but click a team members portrait and heal for a good two hours when your in instances. i mean you can cast other spells but it usually just ends up wasting mana that you need. if you spec to shadow priest though in the higher levels you can do some pretty nice shadow damage. so basically being a preist all depends on your play style. (by the way im an alchemist, and alchemists kick ass )

I havent really thought of that, I was going to chosse a PvE relam, but is there any difference in chosing one of another?

I also have to choose professions etc.

So Nug you say alchemists are good, may take your advice

Man, seems like there are so many choices it is pretty overwhelming

Paladins are a strong class, as dailyus said if you want a healer/tank, pick the paladin. They also get a free mount at lvl 40. (They have to quest for it but its still free)

I've got a level 20 Paladin. Not bad but they cost alot to run because you're always scrounging for new equipment and weapons. Fun to play though and very easy to level.

Installing the game does take a very long time.
I have a Pally on a PvE and Shaman on a PvP server . I am finding the Shaman a lot more fun to play. Plus I like the Horde community much more.
There really isn't a big difference in PvE and PvP servers until you reach level 10, then you will come across raids into your 10-20 area. But not a big deal. Once you hit 20 you are forced into contested regions and then it becomes a very different game between the two servers. You will be attacked more often so leveling becomes a little slower.

I personally like PVE since you get to choose when you want to PVP but other like it all the time. Depends on what you like. I really like the RP servers though since poeple try and stay more in character and not talking about the latest movie. I get that at work. As for classes.... I have about 1 char up to level 15 - 20 of every class... just try them and see what you like i used to hate pure meelee but love a rogue.

I may start a shaman on a PvE or RP server to avoid all the ganking. But if you're really competitive about MMOG's you have to play PvP. On my server, they just came out with a server wide 5v5 tournament with the 1000g winner take all. That's pretty hardcore.

Well I ma still deciding really. Was going to start this weekend but went to see GF so havent had a chance

I was doing more reading and also thought the mage looked pretty cool, but the Pallie seems to be a pretty good all rounder and should give me experience in magic, melee, armour, weapons etc.

I was thinking of being boring (shall i say traditional) and also taking up blacksmithing and mining as professions.

I am just waiting for some free time to actually get to play the game!!

Damn work

hmmm,

the more reading up i do the more confused i get - i am now very tempted to be a mage. It soundsd as if their spells are class and i keep reading about people getting to about lvl 20 and being really bored of pallies

so many decisions.

nana

[EDIT] Well, after much changing of mind I have pretty much come full circle and decided that i am going to start as a priest, but also have a Rogue as an alternative player. I will probably choose a human priest and a night elf rogue. I think having two characters will give me a bit of variety, but i think the priest will be more fun in higher levels, while i hear that the rogue is a good fun classto play and very different.

i wish i could go home from work and just play WoW

Rouges level really fast and priest are very popular for grouping so you eventally lvl quick once you start doing raids. You'd get lots of invites. Some people complain about being spammed for groups by strangers as soon as they log on with their priest! Shaman's have a hybrid damage/buffs/healing backup role ad do real well in PvP. But unfortunately for you, it sounds like your going to start on the Alliance side. lol.. Just kidding.
