GTA:SA sound problem

Sorry for the double post. I first put this in another thread, then realised no-one with similiar problems would catch it there.

I'm having game ruining issues here. Mostly to do with sound. I get no ambient sounds when on foot. No bullet sounds either.

In fact. now that I think about it, I'm only getting the rare NPC voice (Hookers etc). When I'm in a car, I get the radio, but nothing else. The only thing that seems to work properly are the cut-scenes at the beginning of a mission. And only sporadically at that.

And after about 3 hours of play, the sub-titles now run through at a hundred miles per hour. Most of the time now I have no idea what's going on in the story.

I suspect it may well have something to do with eax. But there is no option to adjust anything in the game menu.

So I'm pretty much player without sound, and without a clue.

I'm having no problems with any other games.

If anyone has any ideas, It would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of soundcard do you have and what type of speakers? (I'm mainly wondering if you have 2.1, 4.1, or 5.1 speakers....I'm betting it's 2.1)

Try updating the soundcard drivers. It runs fine with my Audigy2ZS using the YouP-PAX A4v1.02 alternative package, but the easiest to do is to check for the latest update from Creative Labs first.

Thanks for the help, but I do have the latest Creative drivers. I tried a re-install of the game; Now I'm getting the correct sound during gameplay, but get no sound during the cut scenes. A complete reverse! Weird.

Also, I can't get the radio in the cars anymore. If I hit the change station key, I get a moment of static (like the radios tuning itself) then nothing. Bummer, 'cause the music's a big part of the experience. Oh well.

At least I can enjoy playing it now. Must say, it's a pretty good game. Been a while since I've been so keen to get home and fire up the box.

Between GTA:SA and the demo for BF2, it's been a fun weekend.

I'm very interested in these PAX drivers, but have yet to find a "Dummies" guide for the install procedure. I am usually the first to get in a bit of tinkering, but like to have some idea what I'm doing first.

Also, I've heard that you can use the Audigy4 pro dvr's with the PAX set.

Could you reccommend a place to get the required info?

Thanks in advance

common problem on the san andreas forums

try setting your speakers to 2.1 and all the sounds should be ok ..... not the best fix i know but its a start until a patch is released

So far I've only used that perticular driver package with no added software, but for my use that's fine as I don't need more than the included Creative Audio Console tool. If you want to use Audigy4 software then you should get the full modded ISO as well, see sticked threads in the sound hardware forum section here on DH. If you'd like to start with just the driver then uninstall the existing driver, reboot and then install the YouP-PAX A4v1.02 package. It will refuse to install if an existing driver is already installed.
