For those of you with BF2 lag/chop/shutter this MIGHT help
I run BF2 at 1280x1024 with everything on high settings except for lighting which is at medium, and dynamic shadows off. I run a pretty constant 45-60 fps, and have yet to experience any major lag or chop. The only thing I can think of that I could possibly be doing differently from others, is the fact that I have my pagefile on another HDD. For those of you who don't know how to move your page file, it can be done like so; Right-click my computer and go to "properties", then go to "advanced">>>"performance">>>"advanced" and then click "change" down at the bottom. You will see a list of all your locally connected HDDs, select your non-windows drive, choose custum size, and give it a min and a max setting, then click "set". Now select your windows drive, and choose "no paging file" and hit "set".
Now this may or may not help. Also for those of you with just one drive, there is a way to move the paging file to the edge of the disk, but I can't recall how to do that. My rig for reference: AMD 64 FX-51 Asus SK8n 1GB Corsair PC3200 (2x512) Sapphire Radeon X850xtpe AGP (Omega) 1 74GB WD Raptor 1 80GB Maxtor Diamondmax SATA SB Audigy 2 Again, this is only a POSSIBILITY tha MIGHT help SOME of you with problems. |

I have that already, and I advise, if you can, that others do the same, it spreads the load well, and it means that you can effectively double the amount of HD effort your computer can mkae at once at times, worth a go

K Im still waiting for my copy to be shipped...Ordered it on Tues. Buggers havent even shipped it yet GRRR. anyways WHEN I get it I would like to run it in 1280x1024 as thats my Native Res, as far as I can see from the demo anyway that res isnt available, BOB was that a config change you made? I tried it with the Demo but it would crash me back to Desktop. Just wanted a head start

1280x1024 isnt offically supported for some reason, so what you have to do is add "+szx 1280 +szy 1024" to the commandline, from what I can tell, adding it to the .con file usually results in a crash

BF2 the main issue is it uses massive amount of memory and page file 850+MB/850+MB
even with 1.5 gb of ram (80-90FPS everything on high but shadows,x800xl), with 1gb it seemed was unplayable... at the settings I ran @ with 1.5GB So buy ram everyone lol'

LOL, But you are right, to play full 64 player maps with everything on full, 2Gig of ram is reccomended, but I use mediums to keep FPS high, and FPS is good, and I never stutter, the only thing that bugs me is the huge load times, but thats not a huge issue, (Im using 1GB of GeIL PC3200 ram btw).

Also, I found something online for nforce boards, if you disable the network card, then that lag at the beginning of the game won't happen anymore, because it is PB looking around that one area and finding a dead end, and repeating about 20 more times.

yeah I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING 2GB or at least 1.5gb in order to play bf2 at high setting and high rez without the annoying lagging. Due to the fact the uses abort 1-1.5gb of your rams.
I intially ran the game using 756mb but had to dramitically tweak the game settings to mainly medium and on low resolution, which really piss me off! Anyway after installing my 2gb, I noticed the proformance dramitically improved so that it enable me to ran at 1600x1200, high settings including lighting and 4xatl at a stable frame rate. specs x800pro, catalyst 5.7, kingston pc3200 2gb, intel P4 2.6GB |

I'm not going to spend over $200 on new ram just so I can run crappy BF2 a little smoother, fuck that. That pagefile trick looks nice though. What's a good min and max too for size.

Running at 1280x1024 everything at full/highest with 4xAA and High Sound. Would the Pagefile trick still be worth it if my secondary drive is IDE though? Primary would be a 36gb Raptor.

I read some crap on page file. It suggests to have 1.5xRAM - max available for page file. Mine was already on 1500-3000 so I used the same values.
