It's pretty buggy under WinXP. Try SP1 or Win98/ME. But what U realy need is new videocard.

thats funny, I had a tnt card before my gf4... And yes.. I had the same problem. You need to get sp1 or go onto gta3's website and look into the forums... there they have a patch for the older nvidia cards.... its somethign like a microsoft "screen saver problem patch"... but it also allies to the gta3 problem...

post back with your findings!

MadGoat

(also make sure that the options the card cant use are all off in the settings)

Your vid card is too slow....not enough system ram...and your CPU is BARELY fast enough....if at all.

EEK! Run GTA3?!?

I'm surprised that rig doesn't chug running winXP! More ram first would be your best bet, next viddy card, then a CPU. Get yourself at least 512MB ram for XP, it's cheap off of www.pricewatch.com; then grab yourself a cheap 8500 for $66 off the same place and start trying to find out if your motherboard supports Tulatin CPUs or not. If it does, PICK ONE UP! They're a bargain for their price, if not get yourself a 1Ghz celery and you'll be a much happier gamer.

EDITED BITS: MY BAD! I only recomended the 8500 'cause it was cheapest, but if you're really wanting to play GTA3 you'll want yourself a GF3 or better. I'd recomend the GF4 ti4200 in the flavor of your choice for about $120us.

Yeah, you definently need to upgrade. My brother runs the TNT2 also, and he has a 1 gig athlon and 384 megs of ram and it will barely even run on his pc. New video card and a little more ram should do the trick for you. proccessor upgrade would help also.

I'm trying like hell NOT to buy one right now myself, I figure if I can hold off until after x-mas they're either gonna be cheaper or a 9700 might just get cheap enough for me to get instead.

QUESTION: 9700 over a GF4 ti4200? Assuming the 9700 drops to the $150 range before the end of January.

No it won't drop to the $150. As well all know. I've seen a 9700Pro for 298$.

My bad.

I dunno, it'll bust $200 before the end of January I bet. The 9500 is $150 now, $160 for the 128MB version. It's a toss-up, I started some polls to get an opinion on it.

The 9500Pro is decent. But go look at the review at TomsHardware. It's good for you DIGI but it's not all that hot compared to it's older sibling, 9700. But DIGI... Perfect for you. I suggest looking at the review at tomshardware.

Only problem with the 9500Pro and 9700 non-pro is that they will not overclock...at all. Period.

I'm in the same BOAT, MAN!!
My advise GF4, I dont care whether that ATI crap drops to 1 dollar.

Or Canadian, I think that would be a nickle right now, LOL

If you do purchase a GF4, and are not happy with it, feel free to make the ground shake DIG

I'm quite confident in my advise

Have you been modding it? I get that after I take it "one mod over the line" on Bubbles, usually when I make the cars into styrafoam and add rocket boosters to 'em. The way I fix it is to copy me entire GTA3 directory from Blue to Bubbles and start again. (Unless it's something like I just played around with "handling.cfg" too much and then I just put the original file back and it's right as rain. )

Ok, so you already tried the re-install? Did you just run the default GTA3 set-up program and have it installed where your old directory was? If so, you might want to pop into your "My Documents" folder and delete the "gta3.set" file in your GTA3 folder in there. GTA3 is like MaxPayne in that it stores your saved games and user data in your "My Documents" directory as opposed to your default GTA3 directory. The file "gta3.set" has all your video settings, controls, and audio settings in it. Almost EVERY time I change drivers, (not always, but almost always), I have to delete that file just to get GTA3 to start for me.

It's a really horribly coded program, but an excellent game. I think I have Bubbles totally optimized just for it.

My first bit-o-advice would be to try deleting that file and see if that helps.

(SIDENOTE-You're going to have to reset your video, sound, and control set-ups after deleting that file.)

Ok, let's try some more questions than. I won't give up yet if you ain't ready to. There is just NO way that we can't get this running, so if you've got a bit-o-patience I'm game.

Which 'silly mod' was it, I'm pretty familar with 'em. And what OS again?
