??? BF2 Controls for Chopper

What is the best way to fly a helicopter? I have tried so many different ways with key bindings... A friend once showed me how is he flies his choppers and it was very simple. I can't remember how it went though.

I find it very difficult to hover, as my goal is to capture flags and my heli keeps rolling over.

I can fly jets decently with keyboard, but the choppers aren't as responsive. I use something like the default controls they have. The mouse doesn't work very well.

They really screwd up flying though I've got it decently down path least the jets... the copters i can fly but can effectively use them as a weapon.. I can air to air just fine but air to ground just doesn't work well in the jets for me

Default nothing else works... for me in the hellacopters

S to fly up hold it always
w tils you forward picks you up speed, just don't over tilt LOL unless your ejecting
a&d turns/tilts

they should be beeten for making the flying hard, need setable speeds etc...
my joysick i used for the older titles etc was renderd usless

I stick to the ground vehicles as far as piloting goes. Get me in a Chinook and I am one heck of a door chain gunner though

I always find myself inverting the x/y axis for aircraft. Don't know why, but it's more comfortable. I've been fooling around with the pitch factor, but I can't seem to find decent number. Otherwise I usually leave everything else default, and use the keyboard/mouse combo. I've gotten so good at flying choppers that I can do almost anything in them.. including hugging buildings while going full tilt though the city.

One thing wit the Harrier jets: during take off I find the best thing to do is take it as high as it will go, then punch afterburner while tilting the nose up to get your forward momentum quickly. If you don't do this you will have to compensate for the drop either by tilting the nose up until you gain enough forward speed, or by nose diving to gain that speed too.

I just use my trusty logitech dual action gamepad *winks at the camera*
If not I'd probably just use wasd + mouse.

Hmm, for some reason I've inverted it in everything for years. I just got used to it I guess.

I use a joystick for flying both heli's and jets. However I find how the aircraft handle annoyingly nummed up for non-joystick control for it to be of much fun for me personally.

Although I geuss it is technically better then BF:V, but still not as good as DesertCombat.

Why do people always complain about the heli controls? It is so easy! Have you ever played Desert Combat? Now those were some hard heli controls, with the heli in BF2 I can land on any building effortlessly.

LOL.. funny you should mention DC. Controls in that game for the helis were so sensitive, and required you to compensate constantly. But you know what? Mastering those controls is probably the reason why I can play BFV and BF2 so well. I can land in a space the size of a parking spot, strafe an area in a 360 degree movement, dip up and down along mountain sides, land on the top a building easily, hover over a flag effortlessly, and as I said, fly through city streets near ground level with no problems (in fact I get a lot of kills that way.. what a bonus).

Ok, ok, so I'm a putz for bragging. So sue me. All I can suggest is starting a non-internet muliplayer server that requires just 1 person to start. Since there will be no bots to steal the choppers you will have free reign of the field. Just jump right on in, and practice flying choppers. It's the only way you will ever get used to them.

I'm not bad with the Heli on BF2, its very good to have me flying and a teammate doing the damage, the jets are a different story, start, fly, tree, d'oh! :P

I haven't had any luck so far with the helis. The only time I started to fly it nicely someone missiled my @$$ in an eye blink. It was so funny I still laugh everytime I think about it.

I can fly them pretty easy either way, default should be 'W' and 'S' for up and down, 'A' and 'D' spin you left/right, and you need the arrow keys or mouse to control pitch, best way is to g single player easy, grab a heli go up up up up as high as you can jus hold W and nothing else, then when you're at a safe height experiment, only takes a few rounds to come pretty good, i find it easiest and looks cool if you are spinning in circles when hovering easy to control, looks better, gives you a better view. jus gotta remember to keep the pitch level, jets are pretty straight forward to.

Turn the mouse sensitivity up. 3 or more are needed for fancy flying with the mouse. When attacking ground targets slow down a bit and line yourself up. Its easiest to do this with the harrier. Hold S till you hover and line yourself up with A and D and then W dive bomb. Flying takes a lot of practice.

I never liked switching to my joystick as I find whenever I bail out I get offed putting my joystick down.

A friend of mine doesn't like vehicles of any kind and walks everywhere.

Told ya. You can take all the time in the world to learn it that way, plus you don't have to worry about bots stealing your ride. If you crash it just switch sides, and use the other sides chopper. No need to wait for the one you just crashed to respawn.

I use a joystick on both, and it is fairly simple to fly either helicopters or jets.

I have taken first a number of times with a jet, getting around 20-30 kills and no deaths. The hardest part about being a great pilot is learning when you should and shouldnt use flares.

the JSF is just as easy to fly as any other plane...put it in full forward if you have takeoff room, or full reverse to take off vertically. as soon as your altitude meter reaches about 45-50, put it in full forward and tip the nose forward, tapping your afterburners a bit. you should level out and be flying well above ground level.

Jets and helecopters are horribly overpowered in BF2(if you can fly them). I almost prefer to play maps without them to be honest.

A good pilot can never be taken out by someone on the ground. Homing's wont even hit you unless your standing almost still.

Where in 1942 there was a good chance that you could take out a plane with a single shot from a tank. BF2 you dont stand a hope in hell of hitting a jet, and helecopters are 2-3 hits with a tank shell. Good luck hitting a good chopper pilot.

I just wish there was something to combat good pilots with aside from the aircraft carrier guns.

I like the choppers a lot, but the jets really are annoying. You should have to land on the ground to repair and get ammo instead of doing a flyby.

At an average of 20-50 points a game it takes forever to advance(average player). I can get 100 or so with a jet, and thats few flag captures. Thats almost all kills, and I'm not even a great pilot. I get taken out by other good pilots easy.

Its not like this game is an RPG or something anyway. Rank and medals are just an added 'bonus'. I like designations better for bonuses(halo, goldeneye). Like in MGS I revieved mongoose(because snuck up and killed so many soldiers). Just a little more interesting than rank/medals.

I hit planes with tanks I'm pretty evil in a tank.... especally if I find a nice spot
or camp the mec base waiting for the people that go there to annoy us at our spawn.

What sucks is it takes 2 direct hits to kill a chopper after the 1st
hit they useally run away for repairs . Hitting a copter inst hard you
have to wait as they line up to try to do an attack run. Or when they are makieing a obvious turn...

WTF is up with that? In real life 1 shell would take them out!
Planes take 1 shell... APC's 3 shells, tanks like 3/4

Bingo, I was pretty surprised when I found there not to be another gun on the anti-tank class to take care of aircraft like in DC. Sure you can hit a heli with the anti-tank rockets, but you can sure tell that it was not intended for it. And good luck hitting a plane at any type of distant short of straight on at a couple feet.

I don't know, I get this nagging feeling BF2 got rushed, and dice had to scale back what they wanted todo to compensate for the dead lines. Things like the weapons(all have the same weapons you can earn and all have the same anti-tank weapon)
