Battlefield 2 v1.02 is a HOTFIX
that repairs the memory leak found in v1.01.

Still not the kind of magor patch i'm looking for but verry interesting
(2mb difference over the 1.01 patch)

Haven't heard what might have been updated besides mem-leak, but it looks like nothing else to me. Server browser still sucks; I get bogus ping readings. A ton of 0 pings then shoots up to 93 and up. When I join a game though, it's usually in the 40 or so range. Accuracy when prone is total shit. Looks to me like DICE need to fix yet another fix in the Battlefield series. The demo ran like butter for me, but the full game runs like ass. This one's definitely going on the back burner for a while.

Well, hopefully the PunkBuster issues (Going to certain serveres kicked you for having a too new PB, even with the unpatched version), and that memory leak is finally consigned to history and people can play without these annoying bugs

The solution to that one is this, in the console while in a Server is to type pb_Security 0 It will allow PB to downgrade itself(I'd admit its no solution to Cheat Free Gaming but....) I wish the Renters of these Servers were aware that PB no longer Auto Updates and must be done manually, same with clients

This update didn't do anything but make some more lag in my game, I didn't memory leaks before. I'm gonna have to defragment again after that shader optimization. The server menu is still a flaming piece of shit as well.

Im afraid thats pretty normal as the game is pretty much eatin up ANY resources it can get its hands on cuz as Neon Cowboy likes to point out is caches EVERYTHING(after patch as well) not much you can do about it really.Once it unloads itself you'll get your PC back

Also happens here, but it takes up almost 600 MB ram, which should expain the 50 secs

With this patch it takes noticeably longer to start up the game here, just getting to the first menues. The rest of the game is no different so perhaps it's just related to the memory leak hotfix.

I've noticed its slower to load too. Not to bothered now though as it now works with All Seeing Eye - works loads better than the crappy in game browser.

You need about 2 gigs of ram an a 512mb page file for that game,
Even then the lag after it will just be "shorter"

If you hit CTL+ALT+DEL you see BF2.exe running after you exit slowly unloading
anll crap they precache that could and should be "dynamically loaded" If not all
only some of the stuff the games a magor resource hog. It would be a magor chage in thier codeing though. This is one of those games that force you needlessly to upgrade
your hardware...

the memory leak is just for the server side of things it wasn't a client problem but i would like to point out that not even EA transfered there own servers over to the 1.01 patch when it came out. or if tthey did it was very short lived and they still restart there servers once a day, this tells me one thing BF2 is very buggy software.

I Hate the Menu and I hate the intro movies, but you can get rid of the movies now if only i could get rid of the menu all together
