BF2 install modifies DirectX9C any one else notice?
BF2 updates DirectX any one else notice? becouse if you cancel at
the DX9 install for the demo it cancels the install. I wonderd why it never been needed or required before since it already installed... So next format (BTW :SP2 has DX9c intergrated, and I use a slipstram install) I saved my DX diag info, then I installed the BF2 demo and saved my DX diag info again. Then I used a text file compairer and noticed these files are added diffrent from before bf2 demo was installed... ![]() For some resaon those file dates show as today were as the rest of the DirectX files have thier orgional DX9C dates / builds. Probubly nothing but still But the file dates on the files them self are marked as last modfied "March 16th 2005" but created today. Theres a new folder too... C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code\1.0.2902.0 Just wonderd if any one else noticed... Next time I format pay attention and I'll redownload the DX9C package and reinstall and see if it makes a differeance (before installing the Bf2 demo)

I noticed those files got installed into "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code\1.0.2902.0 and \1.0.2905.0" on this machine, but not on my server which runs the exact install. The only difference is that the server is running the BF2 Dedicated Server files, and not the retail BF2. Infact, 1.0.2902.0 has 16 files, 8 as .DLL, 8 as XML, and that 1.0.2905.0 has 2 files, 1 DLL and 1 XML. Those are as follows:
\1.0.2902.0 Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.dll/xml Microsoft.DirectX.Diagnostics.dll/xml Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.dll/xml Microsoft.DirectX.DirectDraw.dll/xml Microsoft.DirectX.DirectInput.dll/xml Microsoft.DirectX.DirectPlay.dll/xml Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound.dll/xml Microsoft.DirectX.dll/xml \1.0.2905.0 Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3DX.dll/xml Not sure why they are there exactly, but they are tied to Dot.Net somehow. Maybe they are related to or used in the updated DirectX9.0C SDK? Edit: noticed this on Microsofts website: DirectX 9.0c Redistributable for Software Developers - with updated DirectX for Managed Code and D3DX (June 2005). I also noticed a sub heading on the DirectX9.0C SDK (June 2005) page this interesting note under "System Requirements": "Using Managed DirectX ( MDX ) requires both Visual Studio .NET and the .NET framework for development. To run MDX .NET applications, you must install the .Net Framework." I wonder what part of the game, if any, is using Managed DirectX code?

mabye the build differnce maybe not a final build.. Now that I installed that SDK you linked to I now have 3 folders 1.0.2902.0 1.0.2905.0 1.0.2906.0 Interesting to see a game use .net sure would suprize the CCC + .net haters "Microsoft DirectX is a set of low-level application programming interfaces (APIs) for creating games and other high-performance multimedia applications. It includes support for two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) graphics, sound effects and music, input devices, and networked applications such as multiplayer games. By eliminating the Component Object Model (COM) interoperability layer, Managed DirectX improves performance. Managed code can reduce the volume of code and increase productivity. The interface is more intuitive, inheriting from the powerful and easy-to-use Microsoft .NET Framework common types. Managed code also frees you from having to deal with most memory management tasks, such as releasing objects. In the SDK you will find managed Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# samples and tutorials that duplicate nearly all of the unmanaged code samples. " http://msdn.microsoft.com/archive/de...x/dx9intro.asp

You have got to be fucking kidding me. I needed to compile the battalion server (www.urbansquall.com) so I can start making UI changes and we use the new .net 2.0 beta 2. The thing wouldn't install, I'm the only person in the world with the error I'm getting. I've been working on trying to fix it for the past week, wasting both my personal time and my development time. If it turns out to be because EA decided to patch my .net folders, I'm going to pee in their fucking ear.
I'll test it out tomorrow when I'm back at school.
