What is out there right now that I would like but haven't played yet? Please note I'm NOT talking about upcoming or soon-to-be-released games, I'm wondering if I missed anything noteworthy that is already out.
I prefer 3D shooters & avoid RTS games like the plague, but me current fave is probably GTA3 or Mafia...which I think I'm on the final chapter of. ("Creme de la creme", but I don't want to look at any guides and spoil me fun with this one. It's a very unique & fun treat. )So are there any lesser known titles out there that I might have skipped? Any suggestions are appreciated.

if graphics don't mean much to you then Baldur's Gate II is a good game, but you've probably played it if you avoid FPS and RTS
Maybe X-Wing Alliance or something? I know XWA is old but if you've seen http://www.xwaupgrade.com they are making that ancient game look pretty nice

The last few games I really enjoyed were JK2, SoF2 (once I upgraded my hardware to run it), & NOLF2. UT2k3 has a nice engine, but for some reason it just doesn't grab me the way the original did. I find myself prefering games with a storyline & top-notch single-player play since me 56K sucks for online gaming.Sorry I'm whining and being so difficult, I just figure if there's any place I could ask this kind of question and get some good answers it's here. ![]() BTW-Isn't Baldurs Gate II a RTS? If it's a FPS, it sounds hip. ![]() EDITED BITS: Oh yeah, I just thought I'd best mention that I played all the x-wing/tie-fighter/x-wing alliance games too and thought they were excellent. I also recently finished Crimson's Skies which I really liked too. (Me notices that all the games I mentioned had great story-lines. )

hmm, you might wanna give 007 nightfire a try...it´s not the greatest game but it has some nice bond-flair to it...plus it won´t take you too long to get through it(took me about a week).
umm, did you try Mohaa:spearhead? it looks good and the singleplayer campaing was cool too. and finally if you don´t mind playin something a lil older, Deus Ex was awesome. Last edited by daHiVE; Dec 19, 2002 at 01:36 AM. |

![]() I didn't know there was a port of 007, I might give that a go; and MOHAA was good but me system wasn't quite up to it in the heavy spots, a new MOHAA on a rig that could run it could be fun. Thanks.

Baldur's Gate II is a roleplaying game
and if you love FPS then I personally liked the Deadly Dozen as far as games many people missed.

Hitman2 & Deadly Dozen
Believe it or not, those were both too "thinky/feely" for me. I prefer the mind-numbing SoF style of play where run-n-gun can get you threw almost any situation.

Have you played battlefield1942 yet? it's a good game. The Serious Sam games are fun and mind numbing. My favorite game right now is arx fatalis, it takes a few minutes to get used to the controls but its the best time killer out there. (oh yeah its fun too)

Hi, Dig...
You didn't mention whether you've played Max Payne. That's still one of my favorites and one that I definitely reinstall after a HD reformat. Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater has a LOT of improvements over the first one. Surprisingly, many 56Kers are saying the MP playing is pretty solid, too. (A final patch for the game is due out imminently.) The game is gathering some pretty good reviews as well. Dyre Straits |

These aren't really FPS, but NBA Live 2003 sure does have a lot of 'run and gun' offense.. The defense seems pretty lax, but I guess that makes for nice dunks
Any of the FIFA Soccer games are pretty sweet too..

You must have played Return to Castle Wolfenstein but if not give it a go
If you wanna try something a bit different, I'd recommend Hostile Waters, and Giants:Citizen Kabuto![]() p.s. Star Trek Elite Force is a good fps.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I have played Max Payne (LOVED it, went back and played a couple more times thru using the different mods...kung fu mod ROCKED!
), RTCW (The graphics blew me away & the gameplay is topnotch, I like it better than MOH:AA. ), and Giants. (Yummy rocket-packs!) I'm pretty much a die-hard Star Trek fan no matter how much I don't really watch the show anymore, & I thought Elite Forces was killer but too short (EF2 is 'sposed to be 50% longer...and coming out soon. ).What is "Hostile Waters"? That one is new to me. (I don't think I'll be picking up NBA, I only like playing sports games against other humans and no one around here will play with me...at least on the computer ) I haven't played BF1942 yet either, I'd heard the single-player was kind of lame and it was geared a lot more towards multi. It doesn't matter if the game can play well over a 56K or not, it's still too hard for me to game online. (No pause button for kid breaks. ) Definately looking for single-player, quick bursts of gaming goodness that I can pause whenever for however long. Thanks for all the input!

I MUST say that Clive Barker's Undying is one of the best games I have ever played, especially with regards to the storyline. Just absolutely superb. Website is http://undying.ea.com/ , I cannot recommend it more. It is rarely heard of, but it won accolades, and let me just say, it scared the sh!t out of me every once and a while, and I even had a nightmare after falling asleep at the keyboard after a round of Undying. I don't scare easily - a friend of mine stabbed me with a prop collapsing knife out of the blue, and I didn't blink. I was nearly screaming at a couple parts of Undying. Wonderful game, very good, strong storyline, inventive gameplay (you have magic and normal weapons, and there is a magic spell that lets you see "truth" or something, so if you use it on a portrait of the girl who was slaughtered in the room you were in, you see the painting change to one of her being murdered, and if you use it on the rug you see the bloodstains... just incredible and cool).
ToshiroOC I'll admit that on my limited budget, I don't pay for many of the games I play, but this game was so good I went out and bought copies for all of my friends and a copy for myself... all in the name of supporting the author and hoping that I would see more games like this. Edit: Ah, here is the link to the self-playing trailer. I still haven't finished downloading it, but if I recall correctly, this trailer was one of the better and more creative ones I'd seen in a while... http://download.ign.com/pc/undying/undying_teaser.exe Edit Edit: ooh, and here is an excellent example of the scaryness of the game: http://undying.ea.com/wallpaper/Undying-1_1024x768.jpg is a picture of the Covenant family before the change and http://undying.ea.com/wallpaper/Undying-2_1024x768.jpg is one of them after. I think the dude on the far right is just frightening beyond belief... and here is that truth spell I was talking about. The wall looks totally blank and blood free before using it, then... http://undying.ea.com/images/screenshot20.jpg

I got MORROWIND when it first came out last spring. I found it on sale at CompUSA for a limited time for $34.99.
On my first attempt at it, I was totally AMAZED at the graphical environment! (And this was on a 98SE system and 64 DDR VIVO card.) I was also TOTALLY LOST as to what to do with the character. Something else came along and I upgraded my system in the interim -- to what's in my sig now. About 3 weeks ago, I installed Morrowind on my new system. Once again I'm totally blown away by the graphical environment which is rendered even more incredibly on my 8500 128 MB card. ALSO, I've apparently learned a little something about playing this game. I hadn't actually read a lot about the way to play, but, I was more selective in the orders and work I chose and have now discovered the reason for the character's release from prison at the behest of the Emperor. I've reached an area where I'm to be tested to see if I qualify to fulfill the requirements of the prophecies mentioned in the game. This time around, Morrowind has become much more interesting and has me very captivated. Just last night I found an area where certain 'dead heroes' were locked behind doors. Equipping my character with certain armor from them has boosted my own armor rating from a measly 13 pts to over 66 pts! Anyway, whether you've played or desire to play it, it's still an incredibly detailed game with so much exploration and leeway in what you decide to do. As for me, I'm having a blast! |

Morrowind is a great game too, but I get the feeling that that isn't what he was looking for. Its like a first person role playing game (you have inventory, stat menu, etc.), but its customizable and open-ended beyond belief. Great game, already a mod out for it, but its an RPG at heart...

NOLF & NOLF2 both totally rocked, if you liked the first one you're going to love the second one. It's one of those rare cases where the sequel is as good or better than the original.
![]() Morrowind sounds interesting actually, I thought it was more of a Diablo type game. (Yeah, Diablo 1 & 2 too...but not really my cup-o-tea.) I've never finished the single-player versions of a few old games. Tribes2, BattleZone, AVP2, & Giants. I think I'll go back and finish up Giants, I played the first two people but stopped for some reason after winning the waterbike palace race. I think I even have me saved games somewhere on one of these hard-drives....

Well, one thing that a few people have been unaware of re: Morrowind is that you can play in either 1st or 3rd person and the view is switchable ingame.
In fact, I've set it up to remove the center reticule/target graphic and it makes every screen shot so much better without that little interference. AND, you don't even need it to play! Dyre Straits |

Arx Fatalis
Arx Fatalis Arx Fatalis Arx Fatalis Arx Fatalis Arx fatalis
Arx Fatalis Arx Fatalis Arx Fatalis Arx Fatalis Arx Fatalis it's a fun game, the magic casting system is the best i've ever seen and the controls are easy to learn. I usually hate these types of games but this one keeps me interested and in my opinion has good replay value. |

Scott Adam's Adventure series.
Still one of me fave, I sort of miss the old text puzzle/adventure genre. (Yeah, I know about the recent emus and such...I used to play them at work. You can fit a LOT of old games like that on a floppy.
)
