arrow Morrowind - Ugly Water Again...

Well, after downloading and installing the Final DX9, then downloading and installing the new CAT 3.0 Unofficial Drivers, I'm back to the ugly water situation in Morrowind.

I've tried the 'fixes' I tried a couple of weeks ago, but they're not working now.

I'm hoping to get it resolved soon.

For now, I've reverted to Omegadrive's 7062 drivers and the water is perfect again.

Stranger things have happened, but.....

After reverting to Omegadrive's drivers and playing for several hours last night, I decided today to just see what would happen if I updated to the CAT 3.0 9076 drivers again.

So, I did and now the water is PERFECT again.

Just so everyone knows: When DX9 Final came out Thurs. night, I updated DX 9. Then on Fri. when ATi came out with the new CAT 3.0 drivers, I updated those. So, DX9 was first and then the CAT 3.0.

It would be interesting to at least find out what 'setting' or feature is being used to make the water look right. I'm sure it's at least the pixel shaders, but is there anything other than that?

This is getting very annoying now.

After being away from the house and computer today, I came home, did a few things on the computer like check email and normal stuff.

Rebooted to assure I had fresh resources. Started up Morrowind and.....

UGLY WATER is back!

Nothing else on the system is different from last night when I played for several hours with the water looking PERFECT all during the game.

What happens is the water takes on the look of some waves.....but it's 'streaky' waves and you can see right through the breaks all the way to the bottom. Totally horrible looking.

Since I know that the beautiful water is made possible due to the pixel shaders, is there anyway to tell whether something is happening that is corrupting or disabling the pixel shader feature?

Thanks,

Dyre Straits

Argh, threads like this bug me... my GF2mx likes to render the water as a bumpy layer of transparent bluish triangles - try turning off those nifty shaders of yours and you wouldn't be complaining so much about the water looking "ugly". Maybe its really about time I upgraded my vid card...

Are you overclocking at all? the excess heat might only affect it when its warmer in your house. If you know someone else with a video card that supports pixel shaders you might want to borrow their card and see if your machine still has trouble. If you have too much dust in your case you might be screwing up something with your card, you could try re-seating it in the agp slot and/or taking a can of compressed air and blowing your case out.

Well, heat-related issues were considered, yes. However, if it is heat, wouldn't more than just the water be affected?

Im not sure if water is the only thing in the game that uses pixel shaders but its possible that just the portion of the chip that is responsible for pixel shading is being problematic. My other idea was that your card was a little screwed up right when you got it. If someone elses video card gives you the same trouble then you know you dont need to get a new card and its a configuraion error, but if the other card works fine you should talk to whoever manufactured your card to get a replacement.

He's right, I ran into the same prob with Battlefield 1942, some days runs great, others runs glitchy, played round with so many settings, I'm dizzy

Your right "Craig", can't be heat, to inconsistant

Time for a new VC, I went through this, BF1942 is the only game that doesn't work properly on my G2400mmx,
New engine, G2 is blacklisted, Actually got it running pretty smooth, after changing DirectX settings, Windows swap settings, It worked still working, BUT.....

Bottom line for me, new VC

I would suggest G4, we run Lan on BF1942, Radeon always seems to lag.
Not on my home machine of course, at studio

Cheers
