Thumbs Down! Gun Metal Demo

Well, it downloaded ok for me and I fired it up just peachy this morning. That's the good news.

The bad news is it is just SOOOOOO lame! "I'm a giant robot that can turn into an airplane and I shoot all da little ship & people around." It's like a bad copy of "Slave Zero"...and I really wasn't that impressed with it's graphics either.

So good news for fanATIcs, you ain't missing nothing.

heh, I've played it on the Xbox and it wasn't that great. Some of the missions were fun and looked nice but overall the game is average. Do you know if it uses any DX9 features? I will download it if I can see something new and improved

I....don't....know! I'm not exactly sure what DX9 features look like to be honest, so I don't know if I saw any or not. I can tell ya I installed the "final DX9" the other day on me 98se install and then did a clean install of the official 41.09 drivers and left them on the default settings. (Except I did use coolbits and jack me clockspeeds up, I just had to! Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to leave drivers on their default settings?!?! It's un-natural! ) When I ran Gunmetal I didn't see any real cool effects or anything, nothing that I haven't seen done better in other games that are DX8.1 or before. Maybe I missed something, but I was looking for anything new or different.

Actually, it ran sort of crappy compared to most stuff for me. It was jerkyish and I really did think the graphics looked like crap.

Then again I wasn't that impressed with the "speed tree CG demo" that came out when CG was introduced. I think CGs big advantage seems to be in ease and speed of development, but for me so far the end product shows that. It seems rushed and un-polished.

you will only see dx9 effects/features if you have compatible dx9 hardware.

Some of you people are so stupid you need a new vid card that supports dx9 and no games will have dx9 features until well into next year (how you expect to see dx9 features with an old shitty geforce 2 is beyond me)

"emulation" would be the first word that springs to my stupid mind, but I'd try it on me GF3 rather than me son's GF2.

Heck, I tried to run it on my 8500 for giggles just to see if it would. (It won't, "NO SUPPORTED VIDEO CARD" error. )

Like digi said, its possible to emulate, and hopefully the program in question would simply disable dx9 effects on non-dx9 cards, though from the look of things it isn't. I would disagree with you when you say that "no games will have dx9 features until well into next year", as we already have dx9 games out - not officially but Doom3 alphas are dx9, and are available, and there are all of the ATI and nVidia demos that are available with dx9, and now that directX 9 has been released, I would think that the dx9 games will start appearing very soon, perhaps as early as february...

Did Anyone Play The Demo On A 9700?

I've yet to get to it to even open much less play. I get the happy little error reporting screen everytime I try to start the demo.

I'm running WinXP fully updated(including .Net), DX9, 9700 latest drivers and haven't been able to run the demo once.
