Doom III and Radeon 9000?
Does anybody know how to coax more than 12 fps from the alpha leak of Doom III? I have messed with the config files a little bit but was wondering if anyone found a fix.

First and foremost, the 9000 will prolly not be able to deviler more frames... What is your rig setup?

PIII 667
256 MB PC 133 SBLive! Value sound Card, OEM 128 MB Radeon Atlantis 9000, OEM Windows XP Pro I can run most games fine (Battlefield 1942 at fairly high detail without low framerate), even in the highest detail setting. The problem is that Doom is trying to run without support for an ATI graphics card I think. I was just wondering if there was a fix for this. |

HAHAHAHAH, you NEED a new CPU and another stick of 256....that's your problem..... With just 667 mhz you won't get spectacular results. Also, you will have choppy gameplay with DOOM III on a 5400 rpm drive. There are so many goddamn files for that game.

Are you offering to provide the new hardware?
Most games run smoothly, like battlefield 1942 and UT2003. Why shouldn't doom. Anyway I'm working on getting an Asus a7n8x with an Athlon XP1700+. I found a bargain deal, just a little strapped for cash. |

Well tbh I dont know why you expect it to run at all as it is only an alpha and that makes it very cpu intensive as it has not been optimiased for different graphics cards.

I'd have to agree with Gibbon. This is just the Alpha version meaning the first somewhat playable levels. The game hasn't been thouroughly tested on all sorts of hardware. There are still many glitches that need to be worked out. Dont spend a ton of money just cause an Alpha version of a game doesn't work on your system. Give the game plenty more time in development. If you save up for the new hardware and the real version comes out and is still nearly impossible to play, then you should upgrade. I also agree with DriveEuro in the fact that make sure you get more than 256 Ram, especially if you are running Windows XP. That OS loves eating away at your RAM. Hope that helps a little.

DOOM ALPHA when uncompressed on your computer is 1.3 GB....it's not optimized to run on computers.... I would not even judge DOOM III with a video card. It is an alpha....it is not be played on mediocre computers. It is not optimized for all computers.

Thanks, I just was not sure if any tweaks have been found or something. I guess I will have to wait for a legitimate version to come out to play above 12-14 fps.
