Strange CS problem

I have this strange problem which I am somewhat contributing to my overclocked CPU but who knows for sure?
Most of the time, when I dbl click the CS icon on my desktop, I get and hour glass and my resolution changes (rage3Dtweak),the hour glass disappears and nothing happens..In task Manager ,under Process I see hl.exe running but not under the Application tab...I then kill the process.
Sometimes I get in if I refresh my memory via Hare (defrag mem)...Once Im in, it runs great...I max out in FPS...no stuttering or any issues.....
Other games run fine, BF1942, Test Driver,Hitman 2,Mech Warrior 4 etc...I have reinstalled CS a couple of times, same issue...
any help would be appreciated..

It's your rage3d tweak, when I have it set to disable my background and lower my res when I play games it causes problems with lots of things. Acctually im not 100% sure 'cause I dont play CS but it's my best guess.

Ya..you are right..I alos posted this on another forum,...same conclusion...Only drag is I cant ligthen up th egame while playing...my gamma setting is maxed........
any suggestions?
