Had to use a NOCD just to get FEAR to run
after reciving it at 9 this morning from Play.com i installed it patched it tried to run it and failed
it would get as far as showing me the Sierra logo on the first launch screen and lockup and only a hard reboot solved it ( i get NO error message that i can see ) so far i have disabled then uninstalled daemon uninstalled nero (on the offchance) uninstalled the firewall as i thought it was blocking the EXE connecting to the internet reset pemissions on all users folders disabled as many unecessary programs as i can reinstalled various versions of sound video and Mobo drivers and created a new profile soley for the game in the end i have formatted and reinstalled windows SP2 all critical updates mobo drivers Vid and sound mouse and on a barebones install just used the game and still it would not run the game locks my machine up solid every time on the first Sierra Screen ( i am not able to CTRL ALT DEL out of this ) i suspect it just does not like my CD rom one is an NEC 3540A rewriter and the other a generic PIONEER DVD in frustration i downloaded a NOCD crack and the game is running flawlessly but i will NOT be able to go online . obviously i would prefer not to use the NOCD crack as i am dying to get online the demo ran with no issues on my pc if thats any help Stunning game when it i got it running though any ideas guys ???? oh and before anyone says yes its a genuine DVD its not a warez copy i can post a piccy of my cd case and manual

I have the same problem with my 3540A DVD drive, glad to hear its not just me. Is the nocd exe for version 1.0 or for the patch, if it is for the patched version, enlighten me please.

Instead of a noCD, look for what's called a "mini image"
It's an image of the disc that contains nothing but the portions of the disc the authentication looks at, and they usually weigh in around 5-10 MBs It's essentially a noCD patch without having to altar the .exe any, thus still allowing you to play online. You can mount it with alcohol, nero, or daemon. NOTE: This is NOT a means to warez games, so don't bother. This still requires a legit CD Key and the full version fo the game, it is just a recent adaptation of the 'noCD patch' idea since more and more games cause issues such as this, and more and more are blocking "altared EXE's" from playing online. |

You will need a application called SR7.StopV1.0 to use the Mini-Image. This program allows the Mini-Image to run w/o the Sucyerom 7 protection from detecting yer Virtual Drive.

so let me get this straight... i have an option of buying FEAR and having to use illegal cracks to get it to run properly, OR I can buy Quake 4 and have an embedded program phone home to ID Software and report on my system config.
And people thought STEAM was bad!!?!?!

Its not illegal to play a game that you bought...
I gota quote this post from daemon tools.. http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/port...=6386&start=15 (" quote: Originally posted by MikiMouseIt is not cracking and it is not Protection. Emulation enables Accessing Content you may or may not be prevented from accessing on your legally bought and owned content. Thus Emulation enables access to content you own but are restricted from accessing. Thus so called 'Protection' is in essence - Restriction Technologies. By flavouring your language with the words "cracking" and "protection", one usually considered bad, the other considered good, you are helping "them". The sooner people begin to call it for what it is - restriction technologies, the better. ") |

The DCMA is fairly explicit about this... circumventing any digital protection included in a product sold is illegal. I use Daemon tools regularly, I agree concepts of 'fair use' would probably defend me in court, but the law as it stands now is ridicuously biased in favour of the rights owner. If Adobe will not 'decrypt' a ridcuously simple hash to give the user white balance data for Nikon cameras (e.g. owner took the picture and owns the camera!!!!) then you better bet this is activity is technically illegal as well! PS Worst anti-copy protection I ever came across: Star Flight 1 for the PC. It would FORMAT THE GAME DISK every time you died. Yes, you had to make a copy off of the master and play off the copy. The intent was that if you didn't have the instruction manual, then you wouldn't know your disk would be formatted!!!

I personally find mini image ripping programs to be a godsend. Its the only reason I don't have bloody disks all over my desk. I have 4 CDroms. 4 CD roms. The only game that I play that doesent require a disk is HL2. I'm playing like 5 other games right now(NWN, B&W2, fable, FEAR, Quake4).
You have your own virtural drive. Plus technically everything that makes your cd your CD is just mounted on the HD. I mean barring a 50 CD changer its the best option for games that need the CD. |
