Fable PC crashing like nobodies business

Okay I dunno where to put this. I'm pretty sure its not a driver issue...but anyway I installed Fable. Great game...everything running well..blah blah blah. But then the saved games have been taking longer and longer to save...and before the saving bar would fill up smoothly. After while it just jerked around and the background music would skip. NOW half the time it just crashes to the desktop when it tries to autosave. I can't figure out what the heck is wrong either! And I can't set it to NOT autosave so half the time when I'm loading my game it crashes (for some reason it autosaves directly after you load your game)

does anyone else know what to do about this? I went to the MS KB but it pretty much said stuff like "Disable hardware audio...disable hardware graphics acceleration...give yourself an enema" you know the usual. Nothing worked and the enema hurt like hell

Does anyone have any ideas?

Yagrö is on a distinguished road

Ok, i'm having the exact same problem. Everything used to load fast and smooth, and I could set all the graphics options up with no problems. But now I am about 5 hours into the game, and every time I try to load my save it takes ages, flashes black screen and then loading bar again (this is after about 2 min wait), and then when the autosave screen appears (why they chose to make a game autosave while opening a previous save, only Mr.T knows) it lasts for about 30 seconds and then the game crashes with no indications in windows that anything has gone wrong ("this program had to shut down..blah blah 'DO NOT SEND'").

Now I have updated my graphics card, sound card, motherboard BIOS, and even a few fixes others tried, and still same problem. One thing worthy of note is that my saves from maybe 4 hours and less all load without a hitch, so I'm thinking maybe I have a huge bad chunk of hard drive, or CPU problems that are casuing corrupt saves (which I recieved as a warning on one of my saves). I have run a full system scan for viruses, but am unable to run a hard disk scan, as when I restart (which you have to do) it just doesn't seem to remember to do it.

P4 2.4 GHz
512 MB DDR RAM
533 MHZ Bus
ATI RADEON 9800 XT
Win XP
Soundblaster Live! 5.1

I want to know when they'll come out with a patch....hopefully that fizes things...

Okay bro heres the story. Hero saves = the devil. AVOID HERO SAVES AT ALL COSTS! See the bug that lets you get tons of silver keys early on? Yeah that RUINS things. The more you hero save, the more the game will degrade and eventually die. I just scrapped my game entirely, started a new one, and its been great ever since. I've had no problems whatsoever. The second I start hero savin it and exploiting bugs it goes dead. Sorry.

IT also supposedly has something to do with your sound card. Its always the sound driver that crashes FYI. Live! 5.1 and Audigy 2 ZSs have this problem worse than others, but it is still remedied by avoiding hero saves. I've been experimenting with it a great deal.

One thing you MIGHT be able to do is, delete your most recent saved game, then take one farther back that seems to load fine. Rename it to be your default autosave file (replace the files autosave and autosave qs in your
\My Documents\My Games\Fable\Saves\ directory.)
