What could the STALKER team be up too?

With the news of http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/10...alker_delayed/ that is on the front page. I can only imagine that seeing as the game is not up to the quality that they want, and the engine that they made being highly modifyable, that the only logical explanation for them wanting to delay what already looked like a well made game, is to make it more up to date.

They spent a huge ammount of time writeing the AI and other parts of the game as that is mainly what this game is / was going to be known for. A AI that is unlike any other AI we have seen to date in games. When you have yer art team working with older tools and they finish most of the art before the game is finished, you are useually left with some models or textures or even levels that just dont meet the end quality of the game.

Im guessing that they are upgradeing the game to Direct X next (10) and are redoing the games resources. Its the only reason I can think that they would need such a huge delay. Rather than being unhappy with this news, it just makes me want to thank them for not rushing the game out the door.

Hmmm I remember seeing the first trailer for Stalker and thinking, "Man this game looks awesome!" So if they're making even more improvements/updates then it's gonna be killer. I can't wait; I just hope the hype balances with the reality...
