DH Review: F.E.A.R. (PC)

well its official guys my system still stutters like a mofo in this game.

i thought when i got a ATI1800XT 512DDR card that the stuttering would stop but its just the same shit as when i had my ATI X850XTPE card.

there is a serious ATI drivers problem with this game or the game is just a very badly optimized game for Highend ATI hardware.

this sucks.

i was so excited when this game came out.then i installed and seen all the bugs and the issues recognizing the dvd because of securom and i havent played it since.we should not have to have a 3000.00 system to play a game with solid fps.it doesnt matter if i turn all eyecandy to the lowest settings,i still get stuttering and low fps.i told myself that i would give them two months and then i am going to burn it in the fire.i was going to sell it but then someone else would be disappointed like i was and that would be crule.later

lol im extremly happy with my X1800XT card, it rocks in every game i play apart from this peice of suicidal shit game lol

strange.. everybody moaning about stuttering and stuff...
I got an ATI card, but i havent got a singele stutter.. just sometimes some black pixels across the screen, but that dissapears quickly.. i just dont understand.. whats so special about my ati card that urs havent got.. or does it stutter and i just dont see it.. maybe i just blink all the times it happens...

I don't have any problems as well. Its running very smoothly for me after I did some tweaking.

im enjoying the game so far, not as good as half life 2 but good either way.

about the ATI driver thing, yeah i noticed it played crap on my 9800pro, but when i started playing it on a 6600GT it played a hell of a lot better.

on 9800pro i had it on 800x600 and some settings turned even as low as the "medium" area.

on the 6600GT i am playing it with all settings on "high" (not completely maxed) and 1024x768 and its still an arse load smoother

Well people used to flame me becuase I had never played this game and kept on dissing it...

Now, stutter free and finished, I can easily say that in my eyes, FEAR must be one of the biggest disapointements of 2005. It's hideous (even all maxed out), has the worse sound mixing and worse level design. Still fun but oh my, it could have been SO much more.

But many love it so...

I just got the game the other day along with FLATOUT with the 30% discount at Media Play. Due to the mixed reviews I've seen here, I wasn't going to pay full retail for it.

However, so far, it's playing very nice on my system after doing some tweaking with the settings.

It's been quite a while since a game gave me 'chills' and I got them at one point during "Infiltration" where I was crawling through a very dark 'tunnel' and couldn't remember how to turn on the flashlight. (I've learned since then!

) Anyway, all of a sudden something very faint began to move toward me. I jumped in my seat and backed up my character and was about to shoot when I saw (what I think) were 3 rats crawling through the tunnel in the opposite direction. What a hoot!!

So far, I've died only once. It was at the end of the previous mission where you jump down through a broken office window and things start exploding and that 'little girl' appears in the flames. I had no idea which way to run the first time. Made it without any trouble on the 2nd chance.

I'm also playing this very slow and almost totally in the crouch position. I'm sure it's going to get more difficult the further along I go, but, playing it carefully, it seems to be very doable.

I think I'll get my money's worth.

Honestly, it all depends what kind of person you are... The atmoshphere never gave me the jitters (except the last level... OMG i was freaked) but apart from that, I finished the game in 8 hours, ran through it and killed
