DH Review: Call Of Duty 2 (PC)

Rammy Eldaly has taken a look at the PC version of Call Of Duty 2:

"The game has clearly established several differences from its predecessor. First of all, you no longer have a health bar. Instead, you’ll be prompted to always keep cover during a firefight and to never unrealistically rush into dozens, if not hundreds, of Nazi soldiers. If you do not respect this, then the contour of your screen will gradually turn red until you finally get the “Take Cover” warning that will eventually lead to your death if you do not cooperate accordingly. Grenades are also more effective; whenever an enemy soldier throws one at you, an indicator will pop up on your screen pointing to the direction of the grenade. If you’re too close, then get ready to read one of the many quotes the game offers once you’ve died."

Great review, I think you hit all the points. One thing i would have mentioned over the first games in the series is that enemy solders seem to be finite. That is, they dont just keep coming and coming untill you reach some certain point. I loved this improvement, really helped the realism. Also, I like the subtle ways they replaced your fallen comrades.

Just got the DVD version yesterday; haven't had a chance to try it out yet. But I loved the first one and the expansion.

Nice read! Very nicely written But I think the game still needs some optimizing (engine wise). Game wise, it's epic!!!

Nice job Rammy! You touched on all the major points of the game, the review was well written with great graphics illustrating your points. I especially liked the review length as it covered exactly what needed to be said without being overly verbose.

Great job man, I applaud you

I enjoy it...
love the action and wish they would include a tank component for American and Russian players...but sigh...must settle for what we have now...LOL
after all the bugs were worked out of the game on my machine and I upgraded everything I am thoroughly pleased with the game...
I think it was worth the money....
but I am looking at F.E.A.R. now...

This game is simply amazing - the UI is awesome...just playing the single-player version at the moment and I think I could play it again at the maximum difficulty level in a few weeks/months as it is so good...So many missions on the single-player...and runs great at 1600x1200 high settings...I don't even have a killer system...

Thanks for the great review - very well done indeed!

Cheers.

How long does it take to complete the single player part of the game?

IMO CoD2 was really an expansion pack for the original CoD. It was the original running-around-kill-everyone gather documents or blow up the 88s.

I had more fun with FEAR or even OFP, which is made years ago!
The AIs are kinda dumb too. If you charge out into the fire, they will go with you. I don't really like that... and they will rarely attack a place for you. This is like another you-vs-all game.

play it on hard and it takes quite a while. I've had it since it came out and I'm not through it yet.

I finally got the game this past Friday (12-16-05) and am having a blast with it. Although I'm only playing one or two missions per night.

I've made it to the El Dabo mission that was the demo.

It's playing very smooth on my system with high settings, too.

OK...a little help here, sirs.

Just what am I missing in the "Escape from Toulane" mission? MacGregor doesn't seem to have a clue as to how to drive this vehicle and he's getting us both killed. He just goes round in circles and I've done a fairly good job of taking out hordes of enemies and their weapons.

But, Mac gets some where and just stops like a sitting duck!

Anyone else get a little flustered with this mission?

i have alot of hours into this game now and just recently have hit a wall with the current maps in mp.this patch that is being talked about and talked about and talked about....better get here soon or it will not save this game or any future expansions or new series that are going to follow.i find it insulting that they are taking so long to fix this game and then not even releasing an sdk pack so the modders can do there part.there are some pretty good sp conversions that you could play at a lan or within the same household if you had some friends over but they cant be played online because of a game data error that occurs when the map trys to load.this is my favorite game right now and for awhile now but that might change real soon.i love mp and havent even started one sp game since i got broadband about five years ago.im going to give the patch one more month and if it not here i am going to burn this game in the fireplace and then when the plasic is in a pile i am going to piss on it to cool it down and then i am going to take it out in the street and run it over a million time and then never buy another activision or infinity ward title ever again.
