Half Life 2 is to dark

I've had Haf Life 2 installed for a while, but I've hated playing it because It's dark to a point where I need to walk around with the flashlight to see directly infront of me. I've turned up the in-game brightness to full but am still having problems. In the ATi control panel I've tunrned up the brightness in the desktop and the 3D environment but it's still to dark. I have even tried the omega drivers but still no luck. Any ideas, or hacks to make the game brighter?

Before we go too much farther along, you need to post your system specs:

CPU,
Windows Version,
RAM type and amount,
Video Card and Driver Version you're using,
Monitor make, size, and model -- and is it CRT or LCD,
anything else you can list will be helpful.

Yeah I can see this problem with Q4 or D3, but HL2? Just doesn't make any sense..

I just bought this game and I got stuck at the begining for about an hour and gave up. How do I get passed the part in the begining shortly after you get a pistol and you kill everything in the room and there is nowhere else to go. There are tunnels and a turret gun and a bunch of missles shooting at you from somewhere you cant see if you stand on the top where the turret is. any help?

I would like to add that Ive played cs deleted scenes all teh way through with no problems as well as half life. I just dont get it, I cant figure it out and its pissing me off. Please help

Please make a new thread next time but I'll answer your question for the hell of it:
1. Go inside the tunnel and climb the ladder
2. While facing the same direction as the turrent, look at the right side
3. There should be some barrels (explosives) next to some wooden pillars
4. Shoot the barrels to create a passage way on the ridge, over the pileup

After you have taken out the turret, and some bad guys, collected some health etc, run the way the turret was shooting at, on the right hand side of this tunnel there should be a place to either jump up, or crawl through, i cant remember which

For me the same, But :
Goto nvidia controlpanel-> Goto color correction, choose desktop and move the GAMMA SLIDER, 2 or more points to the right , or whatever suits U, to bright up the monitor.

Works for me

Sounds like your monitor is going. I would try hooking it up to another monitor if you have one, or borrow a friends.

erm, ok, I would still tell hyphenex to try another monitor to see if that is the problem or if its something else (drivers, game, etc.).
