Any gaming ideas?

Okay, I'm VERY bored and the vacations are soon here. Since there is snow, I shall snowboard but it won't be enough. I shall need to play games. Nothing really new is out but well, anyone can gimme a few cool (they can be old) games to play? Suggestions? Please...

[color=#ff0000]Psychonauts[/color] it's kind of a cross between a Tim Burton movie and a Gary Larson comic strip!!

It combines a 3d twist on a sidescroller with a treasure hunt/puzzle solving sort of psycho adventure.

It gets kind of addictive and has a story line that makes you wonder WTF?

Lots of now how the he** do I get to that spot kind of puzzles. Anyway that is my take on it, anyone else tried it?

It was a real change from "the usual" with a somehow familiar feel to it. Good game!

Flat Out was kind of a fun racing /smash up derby style of a game, lots of car mods available too. Another racing game that took a bit of getting used to but I found very enjoyable was Squadra Course Alfa Romeo (S.C.A.R.). Not my style but Sid Meir's pirates was a hit with my wife and son big time. How many of these have you played already? Also I don't play online games so I won't be much help in that area sorry, no high speed so.........

Well I got flatout, amazing game

So that's taken care of

UT2004 is currently in a pile of dust

I might reinstall it just to frag drakon and riles

And I would absolutely LOVE (I really mean LOVE) the two trhones but it's got starforce... Long story short, go in the Flamewar zone and look at the "I hate Ubisoft" thread

If you have a ton of patience, which I don't, the Thief series was a passion of my Wife's, that explains why she is still with me!!! It is a real sneaking around to accomplish your goals type game, personally I prefer the shoot them quick rather than tiptoe up and slash the throat type stuff. There is even a complete game addon pack for Thief 2 made by avid fans. Some issues with hyperthreading etc. but there are workarounds available. Tons of info etc. here:

other than that, to waste some time, kotor 1 and 2, and any of the bioware rpgs, like icewind dale 2, baldurs gate 2, and planescape: torment are all fantastic games.

Have you played "Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines". The game is a real gem, though buggy. YOu should be able to pick it up pretty cheap, update with the unnofficial patch, and not have problems. I bought it on a whim, and I am very pleased. Also, NHL06 is a crap load of fun, if you like hockey (and a controller is a must).

correct, vampire is a great game. I should really reinstall it now that i have an athlon64 just to see the difference in performance from my p3.

Colin Macrae. if (like me) you're really sad and it bothers you that he stopped racing with nicky grist, go for 3, otherwise I like how 4 looks and drives.

I'm sure you already have it, but I love Dawn Of War, especially if you have a couple folks at home to play against

(nothing quite like sprinting up the stairs shamelessly mocking your 12yo at the top of your voice cos you just pwnd him

)

and for an older and cheaper game I'd recommend Clive Barkers Undying

scary enough that I won't play it while on my own in the house, and some great gameplay to boot!

just btw, I haven't looked very recently, but when I bought Vampires for my gf a wee while ago there were almost none available, and I ended up paying somewhere between £10 and £20 for it. Not a huge sum I know, but a decent ammount for an older game.

oh yeah, and that's reminded me that Sanitarium has kept her deleriously occupied for many hours since I got it to run, although you might not want all this hassle:

Thief is just too dman boring for me... My bro has the 3 and loves it but I don't...

Finished Kotor 1 and 2, plus the baldur gates and icewindale... Duunno about planetscape

I might pick up that vampires of masquerade game... Looks intertesing and I heard lots of goodness abuot it.

Finished both the painkillers (game + exp)

Got a psp

Got both CMR 3 and 4 finished

I'll look into that Sanitarium

Vampire the Masquerade is a very very good game, although it is rather unpolished because it was rushed near the end after the PnP game was being discontinued.

Performance wise, the game has a lot of problems, you may come to find that no matter what settings you run it on you get the same old bad FPS, especially in hubs.

Nevertheless, if you can bear with the FPS problems, everything else about the game is pretty much top notch, and I've actually played through it in its entirety on three seperate occasions.

(FPS problems may be cured if you have a very high-end system, but at the time the game was released no system could run it smoothly in all areas.)

I can't rave enough about Morrowind.

And, with Oblivion just around the corner, I'm so glad I've 'finished' the game -- including Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

So, Starforce has you restricted from Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, too, huh?

Did you ever play BloodRayne? BloodRayne 2 is out and I'm going to start playing that after the first of the year.

What about Mafia? One of the best games/stories ever put out for PC IMHO.

Well, there's a few tossed out for consideration. I know I can come up with more.

Soldier of Fortune 2 is worth the $10 you can get it for now...very gorgeous rendition of the quake 3 engine, and you can max the AA/AF and it looks great.

Battlefield 2 is good fun, and special forces looks cool, although i've only played it for a few minutes(my roommate doesn't know, so SHH!!!)

Neverwinter Nights is great, in much the same was as icewind and baldur's gate(same people)

A game many people missed that I enjoyed for a good solid week or 2, and is cheap now, was Sid Meir's Pirates!

Tribes Vengeance was fun too, although they quickly dropped support for it and the multiplayer community is fairly dead

...as you can see, I've mastered the art of the bargain bin
