Simcity 4 tips

I've just got Simcity 4, any good tips for growing my city? Ideally, I'd like to keep my residential and commercial zones together and away from the industrial zones, but I always end up with a patchwork. Anyone found a way around this so that the sims can get around town without getting pollution everywhere?

Yea don't use a Radeon card because supposedly they disabled a ton of textures just to get the game to run =/
