Issue w/ CSS brightness

Bright/Con/Gamma CSS prob
Ok first this is an ATI radeon 9800 pro counter-strike source specific question/problem, I have tried posts on CSS specific forums but I get no replies, so here it goes. I have a really dark monitor therefore I have to adjust the brightness in all games in order to see something on the screen. I do this using the game settings on full and use the drivers to adjust the levels appropriately. This works for ALL games except any source games including HL2. I use current drivers and have tried all the different types omega cat etc... and still the same result. The setting adjustments from the drivers just don't apply to source for some reason. And it doesn’t seems like a communication error cause all the changes regarding AA frame rates etc in the drivers apply fine, its just the freaking brightness, gamma, and contrast. I have tried all combinations I can think of even changing the DX versions from 9 to 8.1 and 8 still nothing. I am aware of the ability to tweak the knobs inside the monitor itself and have done so once; it worked for about 3 months then got dark again. Anyone having this problem and worked around it? Or know of something I am over looking?
