Gothic 2 Gold doesn't start up

Hi. Problem with Gothic 2 and it's expansion. I install G2, then expansion. After that when i'm trying to launch the game from the shortcut or .exe, it says me to disable my antivirus and then try again. So i did it. I disabled my NOD32 and M$ Antispyware from startup and then yanked my net cable. Restart and another try, no help. I uninstalled my d-tools, Alcholo 120% and i updated my Windows. Still same story. I'd really like to play it, but i can't get that working. Any ideas from you?

Is that the exact message? Could you post a screen of the error.

Well a hook process error is when a process installed by another program conflicts with processes from your game. It is most likely the Antivirus or firewall or spyware program. I am aware you know this, but did you turn off windows firewall (disconnectthe line first), are you running Spybot with some of the active component running, are you sure that when you stopped MS spyware program and AV protection, it didn't start back up on the reboot. Also, if your mobo has a built in Antivirus or Firewall, that could cause it as well. may also not hurt to check for trojans or spyware.

IN short, it may be something you are not thinking of. From what I read, most people solved this by uninstalling their AV, which is a pain in the arse.

Well, i'm not going to uninstall my NOD32. It sucks and it's a long process

. I am absolutely sure NOD and M$ didn't come up on startup, because i disabled everything in "msconfig". And Windows Firewall is disabled, hell i even have all network connections and other unnecessary services disabled. My rig is definetly not infected in spyware and i think, my mobo doesn't have onboard firewall. Abit AV8 doesn't have it. Well, i may try this uninstalling of NOD32 but i'll do it later.

Today I bought the Gold Edition Gothic II PC game. I installed the 3 discs and tried to launch the game. I get the small box with Gothic II in red and below that a little window stating that it's creating a "virtual disk file system". After that, I see the JoWooD company logo, then a funny cow video. The splash sceen in red with the guy in armor and a big dragon is shown then I get a silent crash (little black box in my left corner CRT flashes for split second) and then this pops up:

I've attempted to retry after turning off BOTH my AVG anti-virus and ZoneAlarm.

I have also tried the trick with renaming file "Vdfs32g.exe" and I've installed the "gothic2_vdfs-patch.zip" patch.

As it is now.. I've just wasted $20 on 4 shiny coasters and a pretty box.
