PC game movies always freeze

Hi all,
I just build my new system:

CPU: LGA 775 3.4 gig HT
VC: Nvidia 7800 GT
RAM: 3 Gig 677 Mhz PC5400
OS: XP Media Center 2005

Well, I figured that the system is pretty suit up and yet when I play game and when it got to full 3D detail movies, it got stuck. Sometime it got stuck and the mouse is still movable and sometime it is not. I just don't get it. I know it is not the limitation of my system, so can someone figure this out for me?

Here is my troubleshoot progress:

1) I figured that the video card got problem, but when I play the nvidia graphic card demo and all the toughest screensaver out there, it plays smooth and well.

2) I figured that the CPU is overheated, then I purchased the Thermaltake big typhoon and I left the case open while playing the games, but it still got stuck (sometime) when the games play the full detail videos.

3) Then I figure that it is the game that is the problem, but it happens with other games too.

NOTE: The game never got stuck while I am playing the game or when the low polygon movies are playing. It only freeze sometime when the full 3D detail movies are playing.

Any idea? ......... I just can't figure it out why?

Hi, noodle,

And, welcome to DH!

It sounds like you're missing a Codec for certain types of movies. Try downloading a viewer for both DviX and Xvid. Any google will get you in touch with a free download.

Post back with any further questions.

in game movies shouldn't be encoded like that. they are mostly blink/RADmovies using the bik file type nowadays.

Is it ALL games, or just one game in particular? if it's one game, try re-installing it. If it's all of em, try defraging and checking to see what other processes you have running, maybe.

Also, what drivers do you have, and is your chipset driver up to date?

Thank you all for the warm welcome and speedy response.
I somewhat agree with Prodigal Jenius about the codec. I dont think the games actually play video like other third party programs. With the third party programs, you don't really need a decent video card to watch 3D animations, but with the games, you need it. Which is the same reason why I decided to test my video card with 3D screensavers and graphic card demos, and they all worked beautifully. So I figure that the CPU would be the next target for trouble shoot.

PS. pertaining to the driver, I used the driver that came in with the retail box. My assumption of the driver is that it is most up to date since it is the latest Nvidia graphic technology. Nevertheless, if anyone can help me, I greatly appreciate it.
