And I know it's not just me. Since installing XP Home on a newly formatted HD, I've encountered the very annoying CTD just too many times the last day or so.
I've done all the suggested remedies I've come across: Backed off my Overclocking to Defaults - both CPU and Video Card; Tried using the Compatibility Mode (which simply SLOWS the games to a CRAWL); and Turned off WRITE COMBINING in the Display Properties. None of the above has made any difference. There's no WARNING or ERROR screen when this happens....the game just closes and I'm at the Desktop. Soooooo......unless there's a surefire fix for this coming along soon, this trial I'm doing on XP Home may end suddenly, too. Dyre Straits PS GAMES I'VE TRIED 1. Morrowind 2. Max Payne 3. Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater 4. Deep Space Nine: The Fallen DS9:The Fallen didn't give me a problem and I played it in OpenGL. Worked great and nearly finished the first mission. |

Maybe it was just a bad night for gaming last night.
Tonight I've gone hours and hours without the first CTD. Just Leveled Up my Morrowind Character three times without stopping. (Up to Level 25 now. )Dyre Straits |

I just installed XP PRO yesyerday after using win98se for years- just went through all the"servises" and disables the ones I didn't need- A GREAT site to go by is here --- I am going to insall all my games and see if the performance goes up/down. I will report back if I see any strange CTD's let me know how it goes for you too.
