There's always lulls but all of a sudden tons of games will come out that you want and you'll be like "how do i play them all!!"

The market is stale right now, games are a big financial risk and to ensure success many companies churn out what's selling well right now. In america that's fps, rts, and world of warcraft

My recommendation to you is to look to other markets where independent development is still alive; this is where finance does not dictate what gets released. The indie scene is people like you and me with a good idea and a dream. Flash games are a big (and free) platform to find this kind of development. Check out indie game portals such as www.gametunnel.com also.

You may find the nintendo ds or the upcoming nintendo next-gen refreshing if you're gasping for positive change. These options require much more money, though.

I agree with PJ, C&C series have been the best Rts ever, Red Alert 2 was the best in the series with an awsome soundtrack. This year they wil be releasing a C&C collection with every game since the 90's to Zero Hour.

Splinter Cell is and always be an awsome series (until EA get their hands on it and decides it need to be rated T).

I'm looking for the return of RTS's though because thats all I played in the 90's, warcraft, starcraft, C&C, and Age of Empires. We truelly need the thinking games back : ).

My problem with current games is that they are too short. When I have a fulltime job and am only able to play four hours a day it i severly not cool when I can beat a $50 game in two days. It can be the best game ever (aka Max Payne 2(6 hours) fear (8 hours)) but I can't help but feel a little ripped off.

All in all i just miss the fun of CoH and it sucks that no other game is even remotely close the hours and hours of fun that game was. I do have a PSP and while i do have a few games and they are good, no game seems to be great. I think I just got burnt out playing CoH and now that I believe nothing can take its place, nothing will.

i have the same problem.. games are getting boring pretty quickly.. but there is one game that its not the case..
its not actually a stand-alone game, its a mod from half-life (as there are so many) but this one is called Day of Defeat. its online only and its between the Axis and Allies.
and another one is Natural Selection. this one is between marines and aliens.
Now because there are aliens, dont write it off just yet. try it, its pretty cool playing as alien if you get the hang of it. and as marine, you'll sure get a good reaction time with it, cos those aliens move fast...
just type the name in google and youll find it to download. (although you need to download steam, and own a copy of Half-life -the old one, not 2- to download them for free.)

Natural selection was ok. I was dissapointed with most of the map designs back when I played it. I'm waiting for Sven co-op 2.

You know, maybe we are buying the wrong games. The best time I had in a game was when they were crazy hard and I had to raise my skill level for a game. Now its just like meh but not because there is a lack of stuff to do but we have already done it before and its not hard this time. More games need a difficulty that sounds so hard that you don't want to play it. I think we don't buy games for storyline anymore or single player which is pretty sad. I just got through Max Payne (#1) again and it was the most fun I had in a long time with a game. Some of the best writing I had ever seen for a game was in this game, everytyhing just mixes so well together. I then popped in my copy of the second (picked them both up together at my work for less than $10) and I almost puked on my system for how horrible it was. It seemed as if now everything was justified, and max had to put the bad guys behind bars. Also in the second one he has to narrate everything he see's, like thats a newspaper there, there is a camera there, there are some books over there. I loved those comic cutscenes in the first, and the first is still by far better.

Anyway what I'm saying is when the generation of games are bad go back to the previous one. I mean we can complain all we want about how much games suck now but it really doesn't do anything. I'm out a gaming PC for a week but I get by on my Xbox that I had neglected when I had the PC, still having a blast here : ).

If you like role playing and MMORPGs, World of Warcraft is a very fun MMO game IMO and it has specific servers for people who like to RP (role play).

When i get bored with games, i always go back to the bioware rpg's and they hold me over (go for planescape and baldurs gate 1/2). I do see your point totally, since there's some games that just couldn't hold my interest after a few hours...like prince of persia and morrowind for example. Luckily, gaming as a whole never gets boring, there are always choices that keep me interested.

I find it hard these days to find a good online game, The only online game I think is the best is still UT99; ut2k3&4 sucks. I'm not into counterstrike I played it before but it's not as good at UT online, I just cant get bored with it. So if anyone has a optinion of a good online frag fps worthy of attention let me know. Other then that - games are getting pretty lame, mostly going towards how good it looks vs storyline flow of the maps etc..

There you go, probably the best multiplayer game of the year. Check out the pictures also, the level of detail is insane for a large multiplayer game like that. Reminds me of a better BF2 that is rated M and has aliens : ).

/vent BF2 gets old due to online cheating. I picked up special forces and played online for the first time in three months and bam guys were getting one shot kills on me with machine guns from great length, their footsteps were not being reported on the server. Bla bla bla. So I got back into my BF2 clan and it was fine again, but pubs are bad places. /vent

That and QW's looks sweet. Specially that last foggy shot I've never seen before. I wonder how many people have rigs good enough to play it though.

GDF those screenies look awesome, what's it from? (forgive my ignorance)

anyway i still find gamingk inda fun, because i don't play games all that often, maybe once or twice a week at most, so that could be why you're getting bored so quickly, you're constantly playing

They all are from Gamespot, I think the one without the logo Gamespot stole from gamespy.

I love the way the sniper looks in Quake Wars Enemy Territory. When I saw that helmet in Q4 I immediately thought to myself that would be an awsome helmet for sniping. I think I would only be the sniper class because that shot is just so badass : ). I was kinda meh about this game then I read about how engineers can dismantel parts of a vehicle, like take of any wheel and just reading about it makes me want to get it so bad. It is supposed to be similiar to the Wolfenstien ET that was free so this game may actually be free! no confirmation on that but there is nothing that I saw to say otherwise.

Those are awesome games, too bad Bioware, Interplay and all are defunct now. Temple of Elemental Evil was a step up from the Infinity Engine games in the combat system and engine, but was lacking in storyline and replayability.

I haven't bought any new games in a couple years now. I don't regret it though, I'm busy with school and real life, and don't have time for gaming much. All I've played in the past few months is an on-going play-by-email WW2 scenario of civilization 2 with some friends.

Although i've played a fair bit of Battlefield 2 over the past year, I'd say that it is merely an incremental improvement over other modern-warfare based FPSes. Its poor system performance and EA's hijinx haven't helped.

Last game I was excited about was HL2 -- it was very good. Last game i *obsessed* over was Baldur's Gate II. RIP Black Isle.

There's no new 'killer' strategy game...Civilisation IV? To a tried/tested Civ 1-2-3 gamer it doesn't get me excited.

Remember the 'good old days' when you'd have a year where X-Com, Masters of Orion, Civilisation II, and Tie Fighter all come out together? I'd argue any one of those games beats everything in the marketplace today for game design. So much less horsepower, so much more fun!

I love eye-bleedingly good graphics as much as anyone, but I think the industry's focus on a) graphics vs gameplay/interface, b) online multiplayer vs game design, and c) franchise-itis, have weakened the industry as a whole. More games, less quality.

That said, I'm always on the lookout for the next 'surprise' hit. Far Cry came out of nowwhere (although no one ever finishes that game!). Escape from Butcher's Bay was supposedly amazing, even though its just a movie-tie in shooter. Who would have predicted The Sims would be one of the best selling franchises ever?

Keep our ears to the ground, check DriverHeaven regularly, and we'll find the prize in the bottom of the cracker jack box!

Yeah, gaming's died for me too, and I mean really died this time. I finished Call of Duty and I was playing Call of Duty UO on hard when all of a sudden the "fun" went out of the game. Ever since then, gaming has looked really boring to me and no game seems to 'turn me on' anymore. I got F.E.A.R., HL2 and it's expansions, Black&White 2 which is remotely good as opposed to the first one and NFSMW but all of them seem to be lacking that..."thing" that makes them special and fun to play. And when I tried to play CoD2, it was like the fun was completely and absolutely drained from every single pixel of it. My little brother didn't seem to have any problem with it, so I'm thinking maybe it may have something to do with my age (though I'm only 19) and how long I've been playing (I think it's more this than that).

It's sad really, but this thing has happened to me twice before, once when I was 16, because I didn't have any money to buy any games to play at the time which doesen't count I guess, but a second time when I was 18 and I had just discovered forums and for some reasons games just didn't seem all too important and fun any more. Which I think also may not count at all. But this time, it's serious. Could it be that I'm actually "growing up"? ...

I don't know, but I hope not. All of a sudden I find certain things in my life I once found important not so important, like games and the aforementioned forums and such things like that. I find things like trying to get my license and being serious about it once and for all and staying in school and getting all my qualifications and helping my parents (in a strange sort of way hehe) and saving all sorts of money for the future and lightly keeping girlfriends in a cost effective and sustainable manner and so forth and so on, in short, I'm starting to think more and more like my mother and father and less and less like myself. I mean, I'm even considering going more "half-time" than part-time into business and getting my hands dirty in my own hardware shop than just working from home.

I mean, I'm turning into...dare I say it...an adult!!!! I mean, my girlfriend left me and it didn't even hurt because "I understood it" and actually agreed with what my mother had to say on that issue. I wish it didn't have to be this way, but more and more it's beginning to feel normal and I feel myself being driven on by this invisible immobile force hovering in front of me that I don't know but is beginning to feel more and mroe part of me every single day, I don't know what's happening to me and I'd like to say that it could be that I am growing up but I don't know. I mean I actually have "priorities", I mean, since when does a post-teenage 19 yearj old boy have "priorities"? It's all very strange I tell you,,all very strange.

But I'm not worried. Cos I look at my old life and I think that I'm changing for the better.

I think probably from the age of 18 to about 21 or 23 most people become very critical on games. Not so much they know more about what makes a good game just nothing could really satisfy them. Life changes a lot in that time period and it seems games can barely fit in. Sorry to here bout your girl though man. Its just part of growing up. Its probably better to not really have someone when your in College. Easier to get your studies done. I on the other hand will probably be married before or around when I turn 20.

Guess I like to make things more difficult on myself : ).

But after College you'll proably appriciate games more. And not be so critical because that stress is lifted off.

Hopefully ES:IV will be the thrill of gaming back to me. Actually I forgot about Halo 2, I loved Halo 1 now I'm waiting for H2 to be released for PC. I am looking forward to some games being released: Aquanox 3, Alan Wake, Fallout 3, Gothic 3, Grand Raid Offroad, and my top 5 waiting for fav: Neverwinter Nights 2. Just thinking about these games, I thinking I'm having a mind-orgasm.

Halo 1 is King compared to Halo 2.

CaptainAmerica is on a distinguished road

I played COD1 for a year. Fun never wore off. My brother then mentioned World of Warcraft to me and persuaded me to pick it up. Well, about a year later I cancelled my World of Warcraft account realizing I spent almost 100% of my time outside of work playing WoW. I'd go almost 12 hours before realizing I hadn't a think to eat or drink all night. Hell I didn't even take the time to take a leak! The game was fabulous....beyond fabulous in my opinion. What an incredible job of creating an escape from the real world the developers did.
Well, once I realized what it was actually doing to my life I cancelled the account. The game actually became a bigger stress for me than my job becuase of the time constraints required to complete quests. I was finally able to just come home, turn on the t.v., take a hike or just read a book. One of my friends who also played World of Warcraft admitted to me actually losing his job as a result his playing time. A couple months later I still go withdrawel but I picked up COD2 to counteract that. It's alot easier to play a game where you can kill a few people and then turn it off. That just wasn't possible with WoW.
The point i'm trying to make is that if you're bored with video games, that it might be a good thing. Take a few months off from gaming and pick up a new hobby in the mean time. It might do you some good.
