Gaming has lost its "Awesomeness" for me
I think it all started when I got sick of City of Heroes a few months back, I had been playing sense beta (about a year and a half ago) and I was really into it. On my days off from work i would spend all my time in the game, even playing till the next morning on my days off sometimes, I loved it. And then it just became boring to me. I cant even go 1/2 way through any game lately without getting bored of it. I have Q4 Call of Duty 2 UT2004 and I cant play em for more then like 15 mins at a time or ill get bored. I miss the hours of real fun and now it seams i just play games when i have nothing else to do. I honestly wish i found CoH (Or any other game as fun as i found Coh) fun, but I dont anymore and it really sucks.
Anyone else have this "problem"?

I do... Im tired of gaming now.. No more good game to get. I was happy when I got FEAR, CoD2 and Q4, but after finishing all Single player, the Mutiplayer is fun for a month or two. After 3months.. its getting boring. I had so much fun, like everyone for sure. But, it my way to decompress from a hard day

i cant even get months out of it before it gets boring though i get maybe hours. Is it bad that it bothers me so much? I cant really afford other hobbies I do have an RC car but it needs a new motor, I can mod my car but thats alot of $. Gaming used to be the most fun Id have, dunno how sad that is but its true, and now i dont really have that. Could be just time to move on, or atleast take a break. But i have nothing to fill the time with.

You may want to consider trying different types of games. FPS games are my fav's but man do they get boring quickly. I take it you're bored of the genre anyway. Whats important is that you look for games that arent carbon copies of everything else.
You may want to checkout these titles: Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War + Expansion Winter Assault GTA: San Andreas Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory Indigo Prophecy Battlefield 2

Problem is, I think developers are running out of ideas (dare I say Darkened Sky?), and they're mainly focusing on the visually pleasing aspect of the game.. which is next to nothing in my book.. I don't care how the game looks, just give me some good storyline and gameplay!
I'd take SNES any day

I agree, but I tried RTS games and I suck at it. My brother plays only RTS like Warcraft 3 and he always bother me to play that game with him. I suck so much at other type of games. I only play Tactical FPS game like Counter-Strike Source where u need communication and play as a Team. I like Deathmatch too but im mostly good at Tactical games
Ive been playing a game called : Tactical Ops - Assault On Terror for 6years now. This game was a mod for UT99 and it has been release in stores since 2002. It is my favorite game, but its so old and so FULL of CHEATERS that is not fun anymore. CSS is getting of being called Counter-Cheats Source!! UT2004 is awesome and a new mod is comming. Its called : Tactical Ops - Crossfire. Its the updated version of the games i mentionned earlier. It will be an awesome game for sure (go visit www.to-crossfire.net). Ihad some much fun playing the old version that im so excited to play this new mod. If u want a NEW GAME to play, I would recommend this mod for sure . Hope the magic of gaming will be back!!! ![]() ![]()

Thanks alot for the suggestions ill try to find indigo Prophecy and ill give that one a try. You are right though lately ive been playing FPS and while i used to love them to they're starting to merge together. I have also been putting graphics first when it comes to the last gen games, not really paying attention to the story, just how good it looks. I need to find a game thet will really reel me in like my often mentioned CoH did.

What kind of genre are you interested in? Theres so many fantastic games that personally I can't stand but everyone else worships (World of Warcraft, Age of Empires 3, Prince of Persia).

I have this problem often aswell, games just get boring at a certain point. I've only been playing WoW the past few months, more like 8 but ya, because I'm waitting for games I'm interested in to be released. Although I wouldn't call it a problem, it's natural to get bored of the same old things, I've only been able to play WoW this long and much because I've become so used to it, that I feel relaxed when I play it.

Diversity keeps me alive with gaming. I'm playing Kingdom Hearts for the PS2at the moment. That is if I'm not BF2-ing it up or playing the occasional GW.

At the moment, I'm simply having a blast with FLATOUT! There are some 3rd party people working and improving apps for Online MP. But, the SP part is really a lot of fun. And that's what really draws me to it: It's just simple fun!
Prior to this I was really into MORROWIND and can't wait for OBLIVION to come out. I've finished CoD2, F.E.A.R. and really enjoyd Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. SC:CT was interesting enough I played it through at least 4 times...raising the difficulty each time. |

I wouldn't say gaming has lost it's "awsomeness" per se, more so we're in a creative slump. The bottom line is that game developers, scratch that, some large gaming companies (( who I won't name... *cough* EA *cough* )) somehow find it in the gamers interest to buy out competing companies or franchises. This leads to stagnation, aka crappy games or the dreaded 'sequal factor' where companies would rather bring out the same game over and over and not take chances of releasing something truly unique. Not all are in this rut, take for example Sony's God of War (( IMO the best action game I've played in the past ten years )) or Shadow of the Colossus, Pikimen, Katamari Damacy, etc. The only problem is you need alot of money to make games now days and if you spend millions making a truly unique game and no one buys it (( *cough* ICO *cough* )) then many companies figure the safe route is to go with what makes them the most money. Franchises, basically... sequels. Push out ten sequels to a hugely popular game (( Madden for instance )) and then make a unique game to appease your hardcore gamers (( Black )).
I think this trend will only get worse with game development growing in time and money needed. However, with the technology available to developers now you're going to see some truly remarkable games. Not just graphics wise of course, but physics, AI, and enviroment wise. Worlds will get bigger, enemies smarter and physics indistinguishable from real life... but what does all this mean if you don't have a great story and memorable characters? Nothing really. This is why games and characters like Mario, Zelda, Solid Snake, Master Chief, and Cloud are all such endearing parts of our gaming culture. Most of them came around when graphics took second place to story. Untill developers find out that we gamers want a balance between realistic grass, boobs, and our main characters and story then we'll continue to have stagnation. And as you put it, a lessening of "awsomeness" from games in general. In short, I have high hopes for the next generation XBOX 360, Playstation 3 and Revolution. Only time will tell though... (( Sorry for the massiveness of this post... got on a roll ))

Someone needs to come out with another game like Battlezone.
It was a combination of RTS and FPS, and was a LOT of fun. I spend a LOT of time on the old "Heat Net" doing deathmatch, strat, and sniper games. Even got a pretty decent 'prize package' for logging on every day for a year. I recently 'found' a copy of Battlezone II, and it's not too bad either. It was a horrible flop when released, but mostly cause nobody really had enuff puter power to play it then, and the online play was crappy.

I am going through the same problems. I get a game, play it for a bit, go "ehh", and thats about it. I like the visuals, and the game play is fun for a while, but certainly not like it used to be. Guild Wars got me for a while, but now when I play it, I just get bored in a few minutes. Just a part of growing up I suppose, nothing to worry about.
ps. I'm still excited about Oblivion... |

System Shock games. Try those, real fun and spooky and SS2 has RPG elements in it to spruce it up.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory multiplayer. It's really hard and convoluted, but when you get the hang of it and play with someone on your skill level (and there's plenty of people of all skill levels) you will be addicted. I'm Kix.Ck in that game, so if you see one of us Ck folk, don't hesitate to ask questions! The many playstyles in this game NEVER give you the same experience twice. Quake 3/4. Play the multiplayer, forget the SP. It can be so damn simple or complex depending on what mode you play and who you are playing WITH. Right now I'm lovin' Quake 3's CPMA mod (www.promode.org). Check that out. Competitive multiplayer is what will keep gaming alive, and that's where the real meat's at.

Gaming will get it's spark back soon.
Command & Conquer is on it's way back, with a 3D installment of the Red Alert series ![]() Splinter Cell always pushes the envelope on just how interactive a game can be and the number of moves available in a FPS[ok, ok, 3PS, not FPS, but you get the idea], and the new one is due out fairly soon Need For Speed: Most Wanted put the magic back in racing by bringing back the "hot rides and cops" theme, while not losing the tuner aspect everyone fell in love with after the Fast & the Furious movies Look for a title called 'Evil Genius' for a real break from the norm. It's maybe a year or so old, and it's a cross between the Sims, and Austin Powers. That's the best I can describe it. Also, for some more cheap fun, look for a copy of Command & Conquer Renegade, as it plants you in FPS mode inside one of the more interesting "universes" of gaming. Very intriguing gameplay, but I'm nto sure how strong the online community is anymore, as the game is an older one And lastly, mods extend game's lives indefinately, and hell, even quake 3 still has some play in it Urban Terror is perhaps one of the best mods ever put out for any game.
