CS 1.6 9800 Pro FPS issue..help!!
So..
I'm a pretty serious CS 1.6 player and have been playing CS on my Geforce TI4400 128mb for a few years with 100FPS at 1024x768. Today I went and bought a 9800pro 128mb.. I did a DriverCleaner on it, cleaned everything and installed the Cat 6.1 drivers just recently released. My FPS are terrible now, dropping all over the place. I've read a bunch of people having this problem on other forums but nobody seems to have a cure... Can anyone help me out? Thanks! |

Ok. There is a bunch of stuff you can do to get your FPS over 100.
1: Add this line under CS:S(right click)->Properties then click set launch options. -applaunch 220 -heapsize xxx000 +map_background none The xxx under heapsize is to be half of your systems total ram. Then open up notepad and paste this in: cl_forcepreload 1 sv_forcepreload 1 cl_smooth 0 cl_ragdoll_collide 1 r_fastzreject 1 violence_agibs 1 violence_hblood 1 violence_hgibs 1 mat_bumpmap 1 r_waterforceexpensive 1 snd_mixahead 0.5 cl_forcepreload 0 sv_forcepreload 0 Then save it as autoexe.cfg to: X(drive):\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(steamuser id)\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg Unfortunatly HDR kicks my 9800pro's ass and I get like 30 fps when it is enabled so hopefully you have better luck. Though everythine else is fine on high and 8x aniso and no AA. |

BTW with a 9800 pro, 9500pro and with a 9600XT I always had over 100 FPS
with the exception of where its the fault of the game.... aka the "known problem areas" where the input out put spikes, the one that where added with the games 1.6 patch becouse they gutted out a bug chunk of thier net related code... anyways the games fault though vavle DID report the issues as adressed, they listed they lowerd the cpu usage in some of the problem areas. So its an off handed acknowledment of thier problem IMO. another good read for you would be here

Thanks for the replies.
To the first reply - I'm talking about CS 1.6 not source, any ideas what commands I should be running for 1.6? I'm confused on why a 4 year old Geforce Ti4400 128mb would run CS at a higher frame rate than a new gen 9800pro 128mb. Is it because of DX9? and CS uses DX7? if so is there a command to disable DX9 in CS? Thanks! |

Whoops, sorry about that.
By the power of the interweb: Go to your "C:\windows\system32\" folder and search for the file "atioglxx.dll" If you cant find you system32 folder - like me - up at the top that search bar is there... manually type out C:\windows\system32 and it will send you to the folder. Go to the folder "gldrv" in your Counter-Strike folder. Usually located at "Steam\SteamApps\YourAccountName\counter-strike\gldrv". Inside this folder are 2 files. Rename the "3dfxgl.dll" to "3dnwrk" Now press CTRL + V or do a rightclick and paste. Now you should see the file we just copied from the "system32" folder. Open the file "drvmap.txt" with a Editor (Notepad or whatever), but do not use MS-Word! Delete everything inside this file! Now write the new Line: "gldrv/atioglxx.dll OpenGL Driver" (without the " ") Restart Steam, Start Counter-Strike and go straight to "Options". Go to the Video Tab and choose OpenGL (left top "Renderer"), click apply and ok. edit: and make sure truform is always off |
