Sim City 4 PC- bugged to death?
Well I got this game today for the PC, and I have to say, its so bugged its untrue.
not only is the game rendered unplayble on my 9700 due to flickering cursor problems ingame, coloured blotches on the graphics, but it appears there are many other people having the same issues and NOT just on the 9700 cards either. be warned, if you are thinking about buying this, have a look at this forum for more details, I think after reading all the posts in there you might be better keeping your money in your pocket. http://www.simcitycentral.net/forums...pic.php?t=2079 http://www.simcitycentral.net/forums...pic.php?t=2977 |

its good for a sim city game i guess. has some cool effects in it but you need a damn supercomputer to run the game. i have a tbird 1.4 , 512 ram and a radeon 8500 128mb , still runs like crap.

I have P4 2.4@2.880, 512 Mb of Samsung PC2700, ASUS v8420 and the game still runs like crap. I think it's just not optimised or a bad coded.

Maxis's coding seems to have gone downhill since they started pouring so many resources into their The Sims line of games. My question to Maxis, how many different expansion packs can you make that bloats the code and introduces more bugs? And my wife included, how many people can you sucker into buying each new expansion pack that introduces just enough to the game to make it interesting for a short while until the next expansion pack comes out?

I was actually thinking about getting this. I normally don't play these games but I only wanna play it cuz I used to play it in middle school. Yup, in 7th grade. And I LOVED IT. We played it on some ooooooooold Macs at school. Oh...the times.

I was going to buy that game, I don't play those kind of games most of the time either- but I used to love playing that first sim-city game on a girlfriends old computer years ago and had hours of fun.
To bad about all the problems with it. Kind of like BF1942 I guess, good ideah but poorly coded, or just rushed, who knows or cares. One thing I have noticed about games that come out with way to many bugs- no matter how many patches that come out, they hardly ever run right. It's the games that come out that run good, then they patch to run great that seem to the real quality games.

Anyone know how it runs on a ti4200? My cousin wants the game and he's curious. I don't like sim games (and I tried it on my 9700 Pro and it reboots my system immediately) so I won't be playing it.

So it sounds like ATI cards don't like the game.

Cool, that is good to hear, I got a question for you guys, are you using directX 8.1 or DX9? I wonder if that is a problem for some people? Last edited by BWX; Jan 23, 2003 at 07:51 PM. |

Yeah somewhat, When you scroll thru the city it will stutter bad at times, and sometimes objects in your city will not show up.Usually if scroll a little more then back the houses and what not will show. To mee the scrolling is the only issue i have with the game so far and i have played for about a week now. so far i like it and i usually done play sims games

Alright, cool, thanks. I guess I'll try it out, If I don't like it I can always sell it on E-bay, or here in the buy/sell forum.

Case you didn't bother to read the READ ME file included with the SC4 game - it points out that due to ATI driver stability issues, there might be problems playing on ATI graphic cards. It loads just fine on my Dell (specs below) - the 1.3 won't let me scroll as fast as I would like, but the game is total ownij.
