Age of Empires 3--anybody play it yet?

If you liked the other Age of Empires, you'd love this one. The graphics are awesome (it's still overhead 3Dish, but it looks really nice). There's a campaign mode with 3 Acts to go through (one Act is one person's story, the second is the son's story, and the third is the granddaughter's story). It's pretty fun, but (for those of you who have played it) I'm stuck on "Journey through the Andes" on Act 3

Been quite a long time since the last time i played an age of empire game. How good is this game? Is it worth it? Any thoughts on it?

I haven't tried it because of the time period its set in. Thats the one period in history that actually dis-interests me, I love the rest.

However, I used to play the crap outta AoE2, so I'll probably get it at some point.

Couldn't really enjoy it, especially since it was 3d, and in the colonial age.

It's story based...and frankly a stupid story at that involving the illuminati and all that stuff. From a historical perspective the game was a JOKE.....from a game play perspective I beat it in less than 8 hours, it was too easy.

played 1 and 2 and currently playing 3. 3 doesnt have the same feel of 1 or 2 but what it lacks it makes up in looks and sound effects.

damn i miss the priests in 1 where u could convert the enemie onto ur side

Too complex for me. I'm not saying I can't play a game that's complex, just that AOE was always great to me cause of it's simplicity. I loved it for that. Now it's just become like one of the other strategy games. *sigh*

I almost didnt get it, due to the rubbish, bugged demo. But the final game was enjoyable if a little short and lacking in variety. Good playable strategy game. I wish something new would come out in this genre, the PC gaming market has been terrible for the last month or so.

the older titles are better with more varied gameplay and better story/level design, you should definately check them out.

well the first stragety game i played was AOE 1 and that was the best. then i got AOE2 and that was better. then i got AOE3 and that was.............Damn that game sucks @$$. yes the graphics is better but they let down on the game play. it like doom 3 the graphics is WOW but the game is "MOM" (mean its sucks) it was the best having the monk and long bowmen and all the rest. so my opinion is that mircosoft should of kept the old concept. anyone agree?????????????

AOE 3 was pretty easy, I agree. All did was just get a whole army of like 120 field guns and about 5 mortars and I massacred groups of armies with the field guns

The mortars were for destroying the Town Centers

EA just sucks up all the great game makers and isntead letting them work as they used to (develop great games) they now have to sqeeze out so many games in that amount of time so they just cant make any really good games anymore..

i really liked C&C, since EA overtook it i didnt like it..
Now the same with AoE, and many other companies...
I surely hope the new Warhammer is good, saw some screenshots...

Hey, how come no one's mentioning AOM??? That wasn't that bad and it was part of the "Age of" game series, I'd say it was much better than AOE3.

Yeah, in my mind. Age of myth seemed better to me coz to me it was more fun. I think maybe I don't like the time that the new game is set in. Not enough fantasy for me.

I agree on the single player campaign that AoM was more fun. I'm probably not going to finish it in AoE3, but then I got the game for multiplayer and skirmishing vs the AI, where I've enjoyed all the previous titles a lot. I think the historical setting of this game is something you'll either like a lot or dislike as much. I've always prefered the earlier ages without cannons and rifles, but on the other hand they got the indians in pretty well into the game and the home city shipments concept adds something new to the game in multiplayer. I'm disappointed about quite a lot of little technical details where I had expected more work having been put down. A popular and understandable complaint is that they still advertise the game as having formations like firing lines and charges, which were cut out because it didn't work well enough in time for the deadline.

Sales are going exceptionally well so I hope that the likely but yet not announced expansion gets a big budget and long development time. This release was a bit rushed, even if not as bad as some other games these days. My guess for the theme would be a kick towards wars in europe during the colonisation era, with more nations added into the mix. Sweden for instance, almost made it into the AoE3 release.

I remember playing like AOE 1 a LONG time ago before I got into PCs and it was cool... I have and passed AOE3 and I think it was way to short.. the story line was kind of effy but yeah I loved the Game play!!
