I'm not sure just why it is, but, no matter how many times I click on the 'Date' tab, it won't give me a clean listing by date: Note: I DO have DirectX 9.0c

Wait a second- that link I gave first is different from where I got the file... that was a lint to get you to the link..

THIS is what I got...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Also it is directx_feb2006_redist.exe when you get it... it is 49.0MB file
49.0 MB (51,385,344 bytes)

Is that what you got? I did not to the web installer..
Something MUST be different.

Yes that "49.0 MB (51,385,344 bytes)" is the size on disk.
49.0 MB (51,385,104 bytes) is the size.

Now I am baffled.

I guess it could be the difference between XP home and XP pro though? Someone must know.

ok.... wait..

After you run the file.. it asks for a location... at which point you intall/extract to.... after it's done.. you must MANUALLY go to the folder and run the setup file..... go through it and that's when it's done installing......

So somewhere along the line your PC isn't working right or you aren't working right.. It doesn't make sense you could install it and not have the updated files. Strange.

hohum will become famous soon enough

Have installed the Feb update myself just now, also have no updated files. However I have read somewhere that files aren't updated unless you have installed the SDK previously, which I have no interest in doing.

Regarding some of the screenshots of file lists, it seems apparent that some of you have files named differently aswell... I have absolutely nothing in my file list that has 'Microsoft' in the name, yet you have a number of them. I'm assuming they're extra files of some sort (?)... did you install the SDK at some point? (E.g. to be able to run certain 3dmark tests, etc).

yeah I don't have any of these Microsoft files either (so many with the exact same name?!). I was starting to suspect that they were SDK files, which I also have not installed.

Sanafabich is on a distinguished road

If you download the web-update setup file, it only downloads about 8 MB, so there's no need to download the full 50 MB file

Well, I did some benchies with FEAR, Source Stress Test, and NHL06... absolutely no difference whatsoever. FEAR actually dropped a bit, nothing noticable, and probably nothing to do with DX. If it makes you happy, update DX, but my initial thoughts stand true to me, that the update only increases performance by suggestion.
