cs source server browser problem

Well I've been wanting to play this game at 100% for weeks now.... first my cable connection was a piece of crap now source is messing up.

both my friend and I have this problem where we double click the server it doesn't want to connect. instead the server info box comes up. In addition, it says there is maybe 27/34 people in the server for example but under it says no one is in the server. Then I have to connect manually through console, it may or may not connect and sometimes am routed to a different server.

its so freaking wierd, no one on the steam forums replied to my issue and I saw 2 others with the same problem.
