I can think of plenty of other ideas that are a lot worse. That doesn't mean it's a good idea, though.

I have one of the Guitar Hero games for DS. It's OK I guess, but there are a lot of crappy songs mixed in with the decent ones. The biggest problem with this game IS the grip. Gives you hand cramps pretty quick. Not to mention being totally useless on a DSi, since it doesn't have the GBA port.

I just have a DSlite though.

Another problem is that since the DS is cartridge based, the music is very compressed sounding. Headphones help, but there's no getting around the low fidelity of the sound.

Some of the other music games that don't use the grip are also kinda hand-crampy when you're intensely pecking out the notes on the touchscreen with a stylus.

Out of all the music games on DS, I think Elite Beat Agents was the best of the bunch. Not necessarily for the songs included, but for the gameplay. Would love an EBA2.
