Wii U owners report mandatory 5GB firmware update

The Wii U launched in America over the weekend, and Twitter has seen a flurry of updates from owners who weren't able to play their new console for up to four hours while it performed a mammoth firmware update.

I feel sorry for the owners of the Basic version.
Nintendo kinda fucked them up with the storage on the system. Yes I know you can plug in external drives, but how many want to have another box and another cable or two in their living room/etc ?
Even the 32GB is not enough IMO.

i'd rather sit through 4 or more hours of waiting for an update to complete... rather then experience everything potentially going wrong.. and

From what little info I gleaned around the net about it, the system actually DL's less than a 2gig file and the file expands to 4.7gig.

I would also assume (I don't actually know) that once that update completes, it shouldn't need that file anymore and could probably either be deleted or it auto-deletes.

I'm sure that future shipments of the system will already be updated and the problem will eliminate itself. Sucks for early-adopters though.
