GH Review: N3: 99 nights (X360)

Read the review here
________________________

Button mashing games have been around for quite some time, but recently developers have tried to add various features to prevent such games from becoming monotonous in an instant. On the Xbox 360, Q Entertainment and Phantagram teamed up to release a title known as N3: Ninety-Nine Nights, which is essentially a button masher with a Japanese theme. Including special aspects such as a character leveling system, several distinct campaigns, and an unprecedented number of enemies all help N3 distinguish itself from the rest of the crowd, but it’s not without its fair share of flaws.

Not too surprised at the score (IGN slammed it with a 5.9 rating).

Truthfully, it's hard to find something actually worth buying on the system. Almost every game that has come out in the last 3-4 months have all been mediocre games, and not worth buying with the exception of Prey, and Saints Row. However, I have Prey on the PC, so that really leaves Saints Row. Chrome Hounds and Dead Rising were worth a rental, but that's it. 1 game. Sheesh.

There are a lot of games due out between now and Q2 of next year, such as the next Colin McRae game called DIRT, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Burnout 5, PGR4, Assassins Creed, Lost Oddysey, and Splinter Cell: DA (if it doesn't get bumped AGAIN), among others. Here's hoping that at least 1 of these is worth the moola.

Nice review as usual, though personally found the score a little high... But then, I've never liked that genre either

As for the games Tipstaff, while this has been discussed many times before, I'll quickly say that PGR, TDU, DOA and a few others are all damn worth buying the 360 for.

I'd disagree on DOA, but PGR3 and Test Drive Unlimited, absolutely. PGR3 is still one of the launch games I play the most. Don't get me wrong though, there are games on the system that makes it worth buying, but it's just that I'm finding myself buying and playing more new games on my DS, PSP, and PC in the last 3-4 months than for my 'Cube, PS2, or 360. Shame really.

Me too, on occasion. Same for a lot of the older games going back a few months like Tomb Raider, PGR, and others. As I said, there are a lot good games out for it, but anything within the last 3-4 months? With the exception of Saints Row I can't think of anything that I would keep for the long haul, or even would consider purchasing.

True, all the games you mentioned have been worthy of playing, and for people that don't have more than one piece of equipment for gaming it's been steady at 1 game a month (which is pretty damn good considering the norm) for 360 owners, but for guys like me who have both a decent PC, and a 360, the list is pretty small. Hitman and RTT were released late May (RTT being the only one worth holding onto), and within a couple days of each other ta boot. Since then the rest you mentioned were released about 1 per month until Saints Row and TDU came out this month.

However, Prey was way better on the PC, as was Hitman, and Test Drive Unlimited. So for me, Xbox 360 wise, the list just got a whole lot smaller. I just couldn't find a reason to purchase the 360 version of those games over the PC version. As such the pickings have been small for me. Very disappointingly small.

Anyways, as for NinetyNine Nights, she appears to be worthy of a rental. Too bad too.

Again, even though this is your opinion I couldnt disagree more. I own several really top end pc's and the only games ive played recently have been Company Of Heroes and Rise and Fall Civilisations at war. I think there is a great cross spread of selection between the 360 and Pc as inheritantly the PC is a superior platform for RTS games like the ones ive mentioned and the 360 with the PC style power is superb for games like Basketball (titles I mentioned and the new 2007 versions look like they are going to be even better), and games like test drive unlimited and PGR3 via a large HDTV. Just Cause on the 360 is really very good and on the PC its a port which doesnt even support widescreen and the controls dont work right, it is loaded with bugs .... basically its crap....... just an example of how much better an equivalent 360 version is, and just look at GRAW, the PC version is at best average while the 360 version is brilliant. This isnt even taking into account hot forthcoming titles like the new Splinter Cell and Gears of War, who couldnt be excited! I sure as hell am loving this console more than any console ive owned. via my 37 inch Dell HDTV it is a wonderful experience, especially with a friend.

I dont find the list small at all, then again ive been buying a game or 2 a month on the 360 and playing them until I beat them, so for me its been brilliant value for money. Just beat Saints Row today, very enjoyable title.

Nice review as always.

I've been thinking in getting a 360 for ages, but it seems I keep spending my cash on everything except on an xbox ...maybe Ill pick one up around christmas, a friend brought his over last weekend, and it looked absolutly stunning on my 40" HDTV..

I see your point. For me it's been a slow run, but for others, like yourself, it's been the opposite. I guess it all depends on the person, and the games they're into. This is actually one of the reasons I own multiple systems, cuz there is always something I know I'll like to play on one of them.

In any case, there are a lot of games coming out on the 360 that I'm really interested in, so we'll see if it changes things for me.

I'm in love with the 360, even more since i recently got myself a 32" samsung HDTV, thing looks nothing short then stuning! can't wait to get GOW, DR, PES6, SCDA, SR and so many awsome games that are coming soon. to bad cash flow is slow and some of these titles will have to wait, buying a house kills your gaming time/cash completly..
