October 27, 2006 - We can see it now. Little Tarou-kun wakes up on New Years day expecting a new, next-generation gaming console as a gift for having endured a year of intense cram school sessions. But oh the disappointment when his parents hand him not a box containing a new console, but an envelope with a raincheck for one.

Know what, though, what a way for Sony to pad the books. Do you realize that by selling "rainchecks" they could (if they wanted to) ADD those totals to the actual amount of systems sold before years end? They could say, "We sold 10 million PS3s within such and such a time. Eat that!"

Wouldn't surprise me. They already use shipment numbers instead of sales numbers to boost their apparent sales. That is why I don't pay attention to their sales numbers. Famitsu and NPD use actual sales to consumers, that is what matters.

If I remember correctly I got one of these for christmas when N64 came out. All I know now is I can't stand Christmas anymore. I think kids would rather get nothing than a rain check.
