Nintendo is too conscious of competition, says Miyamoto
Source: Gamesindustry
_______________ Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has warned that Nintendo pays too much attention to the actions of its rivals, suggesting that the company should focus more on its unique strengths. Speaking in an interview with CNN, Miyamoto said, "I do think we are too conscious of competition. There are many companies today that can be compared to Nintendo, but I think that Nintendo should be unique and become a company that can not be compared with the other corporations. |

Well.....how many other companies put out decidedly inferior technology with a few "innovations" and manage to rake in the millions like Nintendo does?
It's that inferior technology that probably worries Nintendo the most. Many games will never come out for their console because the system just can't handle it, or if the game does come out, it looks terrible or is watered-down compared to other consoles. The result? Lost sales to another console. They have to rely on "innovation" to keep them going and that means games that play a whole different way (Wii-motes, touchscreens). While this seems to be working for now, how long can it possibly go on before "innovation" isn't enough anymore? (hmm.....been going on for years now with Nintendo..... )They have very good reasons for being "conscious" about the competition, if you ask me. Technically, the competition stomps them and their "innovative" systems in almost every way except for the "innovation" itself. Gameplay only goes so far when the graphics look bad...or at least looks worse than the same game on the competition's console. I only have a DS and a PC. I like the DS just fine, but it just isn't powerful enough. It should have had at least 3 times the power it has.....at LEAST 3 times. And it could have.....seems I remember reading somewhere the the ARM9 that powers the DS is severely underclocked in the DS. 66mhz compared to the 200 or 300mhz or more it could have been. Ninty only has their self to blame if they fail. Honestly though, it looks like they won't fail this generation. I swear Ninty must have sold their soul to maintain profitability like they have..... Thinking about it too much makes me go

Maybe for once they will be able to realize they can actually sell a console by means other than inovation.
Think about if Wii games looked like 360 ones. This would pretty much force other consoles makers to be inovative as well. It seems inovation takes a back seat to making something look better but play exactly the same as before deal. |
