GH Analysis: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Beta Multiplayer Hands On
Read The Analysis here
____________________________ Don’t know about the rest of you, but I had almost given up on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Sure, the screenshots looked amazing from day 1, but after hearing time and time again how certain features wouldn’t make it into the final product I was starting to have my doubts. The long development time didn’t help either, and it would be fair to say that the game started looking like another Duke Nukem Forever. Then out of the blue came a finalized release date and a semi-open beta. Our regulars will know that THQ have given GAMING HEAVEN 200 keys to give away to join in the fun online. It’s still too early to tell how the game will turn out, but things look promising. If you haven’t yet won a key be sure to check out the daily competitions on GAMING HEAVEN. |

I tried the beta thanks to DH, and I’m not impressed with the game. The graphics are not that good, and I’m pretty surprised to see such a drastic ‘high requirements’ for this 'average quality' graphics. The sound was poor as well. Anyway, about the gameplay, It felt like it was a ‘lame’ version of Counter-Strike. Something is ‘missing’ in the game, but they will probably improve it in the final build of the MP. So far, I’m not impressed at all.

Firstly nice review, would love to see what the 8800's churn out framerate wise. I tried it at 1280X1024 (monitor limitation) and maxed every single game setting and didnt see one dropped frame, thats good enough for me. Now if only I could get it to connect to a server, running around on your own isn't that great.
Secondly and here comes Mr angryface ....I loaded up the hands on review and flew into a blind panic, that opening squeal is EXACTLY the sound a cable makes as it drops onto a fast moving fan. I kicked my computer from under the desk and hit the floor in under 2 seconds so I could peer through the side window . Very funny guys .

Nice review, thanks! If I ever get here in time, I will certainly try for one of the keys. But waiting for the game isn't so bad.

The only problems right now are still the netcode (which really needs an overhaul) and the unstable 3d engine. But when this game will be released, I'm hoping that we'll finally see that singpleayer FPS revolution we've heard so much about

I had also givne up on this game. I played it three years ago at a gaming convention in Scotland and thought it was pretty sweet but, everytime I checked there was no new info on the game. I am finally so happy to see this beta out in the wild. WOOT!

I was hoping it would have maps the size of battlefield II. I think the maps are too small and the anoying sound it makes when you walk.
I also noticed that when you walk you wobble like a bobble head. Its not gonna be that great of a game. It will be new but flashyness will wear off real fast. Just thought it was gonna be more, especially for all the crap you have to go through to play this beta.

I liked the map sizes, given that there aren't too many players at a given time. As for the walking sound, yeah it could be better... Sounds cheesy

I want to play this after fileplannet makes such a big deal about playing a beta from their armor division. But alot of their sounds are exactly like the sounds from haflife games. They are so much alike that they are chilling. I thought for a moment that I was playing halflife until I took a step and figured no. I agree on the map sizes being ok for 8 people max.
