PS3 slammed for high power consumption

As fans prepare for the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 in Europe, energy information website Sust-it has recommended that buyers prepare for some eye-watering electricity bills.

The site warns that the US version of the PlayStation 3 comes with a sizeable 380W power supply, which is over twice as big as its main competitor, Microsoft's Xbox 360 at 165W, and over seven times more power hungry than the PlayStation 2.

So it's like $700 for the system PLUS $4000 a year for electricty bills just from PS3. Just wow.

To someone who has only played console games and never had a gaming rig. That is just extra money being thrown away.

PC always has been, and always will be the dominant platform due to it's sizeable versatility compared to console

the only problem is the fact that it's expensive ;p

PCs are pushing many developers away because of piracy... Consoles are taking "console hating" developers and making them bring all those famous PC franchises to them.

Anyways, I remeber seeing a power consumption test on the net and the PS3 didn't use THAT much more power than the Xbox if memory recalls well.
