GEEESH!!! This thing is starting to look like a buggy mess. I'm glad they are patching it, but man, what a hassle.
You have to download all new NO CD fixes and Trainers!

I think it's great EA is committed to patching the game but these fixes are weak. Throw something important in there for a change

You don't imply that the first and only other RTS game than BFMEII that is good enough for you, you haven't paid for, right?

Good to see they are releasing patches quickly and getting rid of all the MP bugs.
Normally I don't like EA, but they done a good job this time, the game is also a worthy C&C game. |

It's like DRM on music - hate that too. I use the trainers at first so I can just focus on exploring all the options in the game, looking at the special effects, trying different layouts and building configurations, testing out the capabilities of all the units, etc. It makes it easier to not have to baby sit the power requirements and the Tiberium allotments. This game is fast enough in terms of preparation for battle that I don't have to spend any time turtling at all, so I don't have to wait and wait and spend 45 minutes building up my base before attacking. One thing I do like is that it seems the upgrades you purchase are automatically applied to the units as you create them. With ROTWK, you have to manually apply upgrades, which is one of the key reasons why the CTRL-F1, CTRL-F2 groupings are so important. In this game it just don't matter as much. Command and Conquer 3 is not as good of a game as BFME II ROTWK. It has much less content, the interface is a bit more intrusive, the stats are not as detailed, there are only 3 factions to play and the balance is pretty horrible for a couple of things. You load up on planes and those monster tanks and you can just slaughter anybody. I guess that's good if you like to play GDI all the time. The Kane edition is kinda costly, but I waited for the Sunday ads and went ahead and got a copy. I did it for no other reason than the extra maps. I hate that there are only 20 maps in the regular, and even though with the Kane edition you get 5 more, it still seems hard to justify the extra cash for it. I can't seem to find any C&C 3 map sites yet. That kinda blows. Anyway, I'm playing through all 25 maps as GDI, stepping up from Easy to Medium to Hard to Brutal, etc. So, I'll have played them at least 100 times total and that will be kinda fun. But it's just not as good of a game as BFME II ROTWK. I tried to not talk about BFME again until April, but now that it is April, I can just spill the beans and tell it like it is. Now, the game is not nearly as resource intensive as the BFME series is, yet the graphics look pretty much just as good. I don't know if the engine is just more optimized, or if things are just more simplified, but it is kinda cool that it runs so well. I'm running the 1.02 patch and am sticking there for a while to see how it all shakes out. I don't play multi-player online, so many the upcoming tweaks may not affect me. Now, if I can just find a way to merge C&C 3 and BFME II ROTWK sessions into a single game, I may just have something. ![]() BTW, is there any way to toggle off interface components? In ROTWK, it's the F9 key but I can't figure it out in this game, or even if it has that feature. I really wish this game had the same context menu setup as ROTWK. It is very cool to be able to click an item and have the options pop up right where your mouse cursor already is. Very convenient and more efficient. I don't like the hotkey setup. I got very used to doing CTRL-F1, CTRL-F2, etc. for creating unit groups and pressing F1, F2, etc. to select them. The default keys kinda suck. |

That said, the game is made by the SAME COMPANY using the SAME ENGINE and is strikingly similar in many, many ways. Even some of the map layouts are incredibly similar. The little preview graphics look very, very much alike for some of the maps in BFME II ROTWK and C&C 3. There are very good reasons for mentioning one with the other. |

You can chane all the key combinations in the options.
The Kane editions doesn't only have 5 extra maps. Do you forget the other things?

I agree with you on the engine comments, you would know they are both the same company, I knew immediately as I had beaten BFME a while ago. Credit to the guys who made it though, really nice engine, runs well. I think the best strategy game however has been Supreme commander to be honest, its a much deeper RTS than either C&C3 of BFME or anything else that has been released in the last 5 years. |

The gameplay seems quite similar, even if the setting is different. Wacky planet surface instead of middle earth, but the way it does resource gathering, turrets, etc. seem very familiar. I'm glad of that though, because it makes the game more accessible to me. Tried Supreme Commander - just too much micro-management really. It wasn't "fun". Company of Heroes was a little better, but still, it just doesn't feel as "fun". A tad more complicated than I like and I didn't like the interface. Plus, I think for me, after playing MOH: AA and COD, I'm burned out on anything to do with World War 2. But hey, to each their own. I now have two RTS games that I can enjoy. I'm more of a Diablo guy than a Baldurs Gate II guy - I guess I like Action RPG's and Action RTS instead of the hardcore in-depth stuff. I'm a bit simple.

I call a motion to have "BFME" put in the list of censored words on these forums so it can't be used ever again.

I second that.
I can think of a few better RTS games than Supreme Commander. But if you prefer it, good for you :-p Dude, isn't there a world builder program with the game?

I dunno - I'm still focused on skirmishing.
![]() I just whipped a map in BRUTAL mode. That was kinda fun. That third alien race has some wild lookin' creatures and such. Wacky. I should take some screen shots. Some of the lighting and shadow effects are just awesome. |

Someone mentioned that they were angry with EA for not releasing a large patch. I read somewhere that they were trying to fix the immediate bugs as quickly as possible with a major patch in the works. Back before EA bought Westwood Studios, Westwood Studios did the same thing with their patches. Hell Starcraft and Diablo/Diablo II are still being patched to "fix" the game and they are how old? haha
Yes I know EA bought Westwood Studios but that was one group of people they did not can right after the aquisition of the Command & Conquer franchise. The game itself is pretty on a world view, but the models are kind of childlike almost like a cross between C&C:TW and C&C Red Alert but in an ironicaly weird way. The acting isn't too bad either with a few big name actors on the cast. My biggest complaint is that when "secondary missions" show up they take you to a cut scene of a close up camera view that interupts whatever it was you were doing, be it a battle, or trying to queue up some troops. The game definately gets harder the longer you play it, and holy crap is it a long game compared to all the other C&C games. I just made it to Act 5 of the GDI campaign and have not even touched the NOD campaign yet and it has taken me 8 hours+ and I can't even tell if I am done with GDI yet (that puts me at almost halfway though the game imo)! I hooked up with some buddies for multiplayer and honestly it was a hell of alot of fun, especially when you can turn your opponents dead against them (certain models only)! One last thing of note, unlike prior C&C games you can not bum rush the enemy and hope to survive without using a mixture of Anti-Air weaponry, tanks, machine gun laden APC's, and ground troops (which work even better when in the APC's!) or you are screwed. I learned the only thing I could bum rush with was Goliath Tanks but that was with 14+ at a time and even then sometimes they got turned away (especially by the stupid aliens flying thing that shoots like 40 "rockets" at you). APC's are the best friends you will ever have, and if you are trying to advance bring a RIG with you and advance slowly while repairing your armor (and stealing from the enemy if necessary/possible). After you make a small bridgehead bring in one of those little trucks that lets you expand your base (merely because they are fast and more apt to survive while running through fire than a construction yard). After it gets there throw up 4 sonic emitters, a few watch towers, 3 AA towers, and one anti-tank towere for every watch tower and this should give you a FIRM foothold and be very hard to throw you back without artillery and a plethora of air to ground attack units (of which the AI does not use quite how I would (hit and run)). Personally I think this is one of the best in the franchise, but they worked too hard on the acting
