The much anticipated demo to Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is now available for download in both DX9 and DX10 varieties. The demo offers two levels of the final game; which has already been released for the Xbox 360. This marks the first playable DX10 game to be released. It is noted the DX10 release requires a DX10 video card and Windows Vista.

I should also say, I download and attempted to install the demo using XP 64 and it told me the OS was incompatible.

I just played the demo and dang its demanding as hell. In the built in benchmark I got 24fps avg in the snow and 26fps avg in the cave section@1024x768 res with 2xAA, 4XAF and everything else at default.

Just tried the demo.
First the bad thing. The game crashed and my PC had to be rebooted. It happened at the point where you are about to exit the parking lot.

Neutral: I see that widescreen is "forced" on you. I am glad it is, but some may not be.

Good: The game is much more fluid than the demo of the 360. I set all settings, including shadows etc to max, trilinear, and 4x AA and 16 AF and at least in the "performance" test I got average about 46. Where it makes the difference though is in the game where every just feels better than the 360 version for some reason.

I will updated my graphics drivers to the latest ones and see if the crash problem is resolved.
The game looks like a GOOD! port.

My guess is because it is a horrible resolution. Yes it is the most common for 17 and 19" TFT monitors, but it still is a little better than a square. It's not even 4:3. IMO it looks crap, everything squeezed in.

So your telling me that 1280x720 or 1280x960, which are available in the game, look better than 1280x1024??? I have never seen a game look bad at 1280x1024.

Much better, if a game properly supports widescreen resolutions (like 1280x720), then I would say almost every time the WS resolution is much better than 1280x1024.

I am having a problem with the demo. I installed the latest officialy nvidia drivers (dx9) and since then I can't make the game go fullscreen. It stays minimised, I click on it, screen goes black for a second then back to the windows' desktop and the game still minimised.

It is because full screen doesn't look very good. They decided to make it windowed play only. LOL

There is obviously something wrong with either the latest dx or nvidia drivers.
It looks like none of the games will run properly and go to minimise instead. The only way to run them properly is after they have loaded to open the task manager, click on the application and then click on Switch To.
This is weird.

Reinstalled the game 3 times, reinstalled videocard drivers. Nothing works. Great little demo!

I downloaded and installed the full DX9 with date april 2007. The game and the other games are back to normal, so that problem is solved.

The crashing of the game persists. This time when I was getting near the first "holes", everything froze, luckily this time I managed to alt tab before the whole system crashed and killed the application. Don't know what is causing it, different drivers and different dx9.

The benchmarks work fine. I disabled motion blur and the average for Snow went from 45-46 to 65. Cave increased by 4-5 I think.

The AI seems a bit lacking. At least in the first mission that I "play", the aliens do not attack you if you stay far away and "snipe" them.
I seriously hope that both the AI and the stability of the game improves.

Ghey! I got around 30fps in the benchmarks but when I try to play it keeps pausing the game and telling me my PC settings aren't going to let me run the game.

Run the latest DX web installer and it should clear up that error.

That DX setup says 9.18.944, so i thought it was DX9. I'll guess i'll try that.

Lost Planet is a wonderful game, especially on Xbox 360 where it runs smoothly and without any bugs

Don't forget that this game is ported from the 360. How many games do you know of that end up being really good that were ported over from a console?

Personally I have had no crashes and the graphics are top notch. It is certainly a hog though. Sometimes demos run like shit and then the game ends up being smooth as dajewishhornet's beaver.

I just got the game running and WOW. I think it looks stunning. The fog/snow/explosions are very very well done. Enviroment interactiveness is also very realistic. Although even with an E6600 @ 3GHz, 2GB ram, and an 8800GTS 640. Playing @ 1280 x 960 won't maintain 30FPS with details maxed.

Same here. Granted I was trying to run the game in 1600x1200 with everything on, but it's a really demanding game. Frankly I was a little disappointed, I expected more out of the first DX10 game. I didn't buy it on the 360, and I can't see me buying it for the PC either. I hope the other DX10 games will run better than this, or I'll need to buy another GTS in SLI mode to be able to hit decent frame rates LOL!

Been looking up crashes and came across this thread, I have problems too. It crashes as soon as I get out of the big body armour machine, and walk under the tunnel area. I get in there, shoot a couple thangs, then it crashes. I tried disabling vsync, tripple buffering, all concurrent rendering. I tried underclocking, overclocking, fiddling with all aspects of hardware, updating drivers. No luck
