Blizzard Announces StarCraft 2 (Updated)

During opening ceremonies at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Seoul, Korea, Blizzard Entertainment today announced that the sequel to its phenomenally successful real-time strategy game StarCraft is currently under development.

Blizzard has issued a few details about the game, most importantly noting that it will utilize "a custom 3D-graphics engine with realistic physics and the ability to render several large, highly detailed units and massive armies on-screen simultaneously." StarCraft II will also apparently ship with many of the core features of the original: a single player campaign, online multiplayer via Blizzard's Battle.net service, as well as a "full-featured map editor."

Great! Its been a while since I've spent some time with that game. I hope this title can live up to the hype that will certainly surround it.

Actually, I believe the rumors of the MMO are still around. Could it be two starcraft games out at once?

Honestly though, it would be a huge mistake for Blizz to make anything that competes with WOW, my guess is there isn't an MMO.

My friend sent me a text to go to blizzard and be sure to wear a diaper when i do.

I opened up the webpage and yelled out "HOLY SHIT!" so loud that my neighbors heard it. it was pretty awesome.

The videos look pretty excellent. I didnt notice if they had said anything about a release window. Any idea when its coming out?

talk about going from excited to let down in only a short time... this isnt the game ive been hopeing for. this is just starcraft 1.5... new graphics, new sounds, a couple new units, a mostly untouched resource system, and a 10 year old battle system.

its just looking like a remake of SC with new graphics, sound, and a couple new units. for the love of god, please update the damn battle system. this single unit crap worked fine 10 years ago, but not today. bring in some real squad combat. theres a reason Dawn of War kicked massive ass.

The graphics didn't keep me intersted, it was the gameplay. I could careless if the gfx are shit or the bombshizzle as long as the gameplay is equivelant more pwnage for blizz. I hate people who make a sequel and make it different and make it suck. Compared to Supreme commander, I will say this still look awesome.

blizzard isn't stupid don't worry, they will have more helpful tools like idle worker notifications in wc3. the videos look just absolutely insane. i should become a bum and just play this all day and night when its out
